Now that keyword.URL is removed how do you change the search provider?

Specifically, how can I change google.com to google.co.uk?

If you set that to use an English language search your HomePage and the Location bar will use the same search engine.

It is also normally possible on a Google page to specify the language

Are you telling me that google.com or google.co.uk, in the UK version of Firefox, are hard coded?

What about other languages? Does Mozilla cover all the Google languages?

I'm quite unsure how you're experiencing this as a problem? Normally, Google will send you to the correct version of their page. Google do this, by looking up the location of your IP-address.

What happens when Google guess it wrong (VPN) or correct and serves the results in a language -- heck even alphabet -- that you won't understand (when traveling)?

In Firefox 23 versions and later the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.

Current Firefox versions use the search engine that is selected in the search bar (click the search engine icon to open the drop down list) on the Navigation Toolbar for searching via the location bar and for the search engine on the about:home page.

If you want to use different search engines then you can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page (Firefox > Add-ons).

cor-el: I do realise that but your suggestion doesn't answer my problem. I do not want to chnage the serach provider, I want to chnage the search provider's behaviour. I.e. I want to stop Hoole 'helping' me.

DanielPhillips: Mycroft has a search provider option for Google US and it works perfectly. Thank you! FYI, you can only set a language to Google if you are logged in, which you may not want to all the time.

Meanwhile, I noticed that in order to be able to change search providers you must have the search bar visible as the menu option is not available from the main menu system. This is an oversight. Search is not only done from the search bar why hide the menu when it is hidden?
