الحل المُختار

The update to Firefox 25.0.1, which should fix the particular problem of pages not loading unless there is mouse movement, has just been released now.

  • If you have downgraded to Firefox 24 before to work around the issue, please go to Firefox > Options > Advanced > Update and turn automatic updates back on. Then go to Firefox > Help > About Firefox which should trigger the update to Firefox 25.0.1. In case you need to download the setup file for Firefox 25.0.1 separately you can do so from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/#firefox
  • If you were test-running Firefox 26 beta, you can either choose between switching back to the Firefox 25.0.1 release (use the link above to download the installer) or stay with the beta version - the latter option has the advantage of receiving new features weeks before they are landing in the regular Firefox versions and being able to sound an early alarm in case such serious regressions are occurring, so there is enough time fixing problems ahead of a general release and minimize the general impact.
  • If you were one of the people who helping out by checking the Nightly 28.0 developer try-build, please uninstall it from the windows control panel (but keep the option to remove your profile data unchecked!) and switch back to the general release version which can be obtained through the link provided above.

In case you continue experiencing the the same page freezing issue even after an update to Firefox 25.0.1 or have anything else you need help with, please open up a new question, because this thread is already pretty long and complex which will make it very difficult to keep track of or respond to individual issues.

Thanks for your patience and all the feedback you've provided which helped us getting a fix for the problem shipped as quickly as possible.

I followed your advice and installed 25.0.1. When I opened it none of my tabs would load, they could not access the sites. Fortunately, I have Rollback RX on my computer and was able to restore a 10:00am image. So I am using 25.0 with my fix of opening Windows Task manager and minimizing it.

I didn't want to install the beta version & all that it entailed so I tried the tip of opening Task Manager & minimizing it & Hey Presto it works! It's bizarre too because yesterday, when I re-installed Firefox vsn. 24, the screen freeze didn't happen until I opened up the video window to Full Screen & then it froze again until I moved the mouse. Despite unchecking the Firefox auto update box, when I re-started my PC this morning Firefox had automatically upgraded again to vsn.25. As I don't watch too many full length videos on line & you hope to fix the screen freeze problem soon I won't bother to keep re-installing Firefox vsn.24 I'll just continue with the Task Mgr tip. Thanks for that!

It does gives some improvement, but not entirely. Thank anyway.

I am having the exact same problem and it is SO annoying. I agree with other users, as much as I hate Explorer, I am going back until this issue is resolved.

hello gbalwyz, it would be nice if you could confirm to us, that firefox 25.0.1 fixes the issue - you can obtain it as a testbuild from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/25.0.1-candidates/build1/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2025.0.1.exe

please report back to us afterwards, it is paramount that we get feedback on it by affected users before we can ship the corrected version to all firefox users via auto-update.

thank you!

I loaded the update. It still seems a bit "choppy" (but that may be my PC), but FAR better than it was.

thanks, gbalwyz!

I loaded V25.0.1 and this version seems to have fixed the problem. When experiencing the initial problem, it was quite obvious given that it was happening all the time. Under this test version, things are much better.

Opening Task Manager is what clued me in to the mouse movement issue. Firefox was taking a long time to open, so when I opened Task Manager, Firefox would usually come to life. Then as I as moving the mouse to configure items is TM, I noticed the coincidental Firefox activity with movement of the mouse.

Apparently Nightly 28.0a1 works normally. Speed compared to 24.0 is too close to call definitely, but seems a small bit slower. No mouse issues so far.

25.0.1 works fine (so far). I'll post if anything changes.

Hello Philip I downloaded vsn. 25.01 today (14/11/13) & also found it to be a bit 'choppy'. When I expanded the screen to 'Full Screen' mode, the screen froze altogether, exactly as before & even running Task Manager, but reduced, made no difference; it still froze in 'Full Screen' mode. Hope this is helpful in resolving the problem. Looking forward to hearing that it's all fixed. Regards

The updated posted at the following resolved my issue. Windows 7 Professional, Thank You,

hey tom, nothing to be afraid of - 25.0.1 is being built in order to fix the freezing issues that happened on 25.0. "Nightlies" are developer builds of firefox - 25.0.1 in the nightly-folder because it is not officially released yet, but getting test run. as i've stated above, firefox developers cannot reproduce the freezing issues in their setting, so we need the feedback of affected users if this really works. so i'd encourage you to download, test it (25.0.1, not 28.0.1) & report back here... this kind of feedback will contribute in getting the fix shipped via auto-update to all firefox 25 users.

@dffydk, would you test-run 25.0.1 for us too? thank you...

I have tried the "fixes" previously posted but still have to keep moving the mouse for browser response. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, SP-1, 64 Bit OS. Thanks for your continued efforts.

I had screen freezing as well with 25.0 and went back to 24.0 which was much better. I have now installed 25.0.1 and it seems better again. Hope thats it sorted!!

Apparently I am not the only one who had a problem with 25.0.1. In my case I could not access any of the Web sites at my tabs. I did notice that on the list of files to be installed there was an additional file "Stubs." I only installed the first one on the list. Was I supposed to install both, how is that done?

So far I am OK with 25.0 and minimized Windows Task Manager.

I have had this issue for some time. I was having Video/flash issues previously so I updated to 25 and everything froze so I have been watching this thread.

Yes, I had tried turning off everything as far as acceleration (Flash/hardware) and every single extension/app.

I downloaded Nightly and everything got better.

Today I downloaded 25.0.1 (Candidate) everything on Firefox seems to be back to "normal" including Flash and Videos. will be looking for the officially released update to fix the rest of my computers.

That reminds me - I was also having trouble with videos on YouTube and other sources freezing until I moved the mouse. Pretty annoying when you're watching a music video. Anyway, all that has cleared up with 25.0.1.

I didn't install Stubs, either. Everything seems fine. All my favorites, etc. are still there.
