Hello,

I've just tested and the mp3s on that page work fine for me. When I first visited the site I see a prompt at the top of the screen: "This page contains plugin content. Would you like to enable plugins".

I clicked Activate and the audio played fine.

If the pop-up doesn't appear then you can try enabling plugins across all pages. See here:

Play Flash Content Without Tapping

But be aware that there are security implications with this option. It is safer to keep flash as tap-to-play. There is more information on this in the article.

I hope that helps.

Hi! I just tried to run again mp3 tracks on this page in Firefox on my Google Nexus 7. There was no plugins notifications . There was no play mp3 tracks. On my desktop computer with windows 7 all the tracks play fine

Ok. Have you tried enabling plugins across all pages?

In the setting of firefox already shown that all plugins are enabled.

That is odd because it is still working fine for me.

Would you mind doing a test? Try downloading Firefox Aurora and seeing if the same issue is still happening there:

Do you mean this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta ? Also does not work. At you played mp3? What kind of device you are using and which version of Android? Can You give your plug-ins screenshots that run at the same time?

more options

That is Firefox Beta. Aurora is a pre-beta version that is less stable than Beta. More info here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/#aurora

I am using Aurora (v25) on a Galaxy SIII running Android 4.1.2. But I have just tested the site on the stable version of Firefox (v23) and it works fine for me there as well. I don't think the version is the issue.

Here is a screenshot showing my plugins settings (set to 'tap-to-play'): http://oi44.tinypic.com/2j4oi86.jpg. To ensure we are the same please set your plugins settings to be the same as mine.

Here is a screenshot showing the prompt I see when I first visit the site: http://oi43.tinypic.com/4r80u8.jpg. If I click 'Allow' then the mp3s work. If I click 'Don't Allow' then they do not work.

If you don't see that prompt then I think you need to clear your Site Settings so that your previous selection is cleared. Go to Settings > Clear Private Data. Mark the boxes in the following screenshot: http://oi39.tinypic.com/f53pc8.jpg Then click Clear Data.

When you go back to the audio books page you should then see the prompt. Click 'Allow' and test again.

If that doesn't work then I'm not exactly sure what is going on. I don't know what plugin is being used by the site to play the audio. I assume Flash. Have you checked that you have the Flash player installed on your Nexus 7? I know that it doesn't come installed by default and it has been removed from the Google Play store.

The following site provides instructions for installing flash on a Nexus 7: http://nexus7.wonderhowto.com/how-to/install-flash-player-your-nexus-7-tablet-watch-streaming-web-based-flash-videos-0146315/

It can also be downloded from Adobe's list of archived flash player versions. Or see here for the direct link. You will need to allow your Nexus 7 to install apps from untrusted sources (i.e. not the google play store).

I hope that helps. Let me know. :)

On my Google Nexus 7 also installed Firefox 23, but it does not show the activate the plugin. Perhaps there is a difference between firefox Google Nexus 7 and Samsung Galaxy. it would be good to have someone who has the Google Nexus 7, made his observations. I do web design and I'm important that users can easily listen to mp3 on my sites. Now I have to additionally convert mp3 to ogg, and it takes twice the amount of server disk space.

Firefox does support mp3 playback using the device's native audio decoder. See screenshot below from html5test.com.

I think the issue is that this website isn't using a standard approach to playing back mp3s. It is using a plugin to deliver the audio.

This website offers a good example of two methods of delivering audio playback:

http://twit.tv/show/this-week-in-tech/407

See the screenshot below.

1. The button labelled "1" requires plugins to be activated for it to work. When I go onto the site I get the same notification as before. If I click to Activate plugins then the button will start audio playback. If I click 'Don't Activate' then the button will do nothing.

2. The button labelled "2" is a simple link to a hosted mp3 file. If I click on it then Firefox will open the mp3 and it will begin playing. This doesn't require a plugin. The playback will work fine even if I click 'Don't Activate' when the page loads.

I hope this helps show you the difference. The website you originally linked to requires a plugin. It is not a simple mp3 file. I think the reason it is not working on your device is that you don't have the necessary plugin. Do you have flash installed on your nexus 7?

Hi! I open the site html5test.com in Firefox Google Nexus 7 and there is also shown that firefox supports mp3. Then some strange reason does not play mp3 on my website. I use this mp3 plug-in http://sjward.org/jplayer-for-wordpress/. So the problem with this plugin?

more options

Yes it looks like maybe that plugin doesn't fully support Firefox for android. In the description the developer states that it only supports "some android devices".

Have a look at this article which goes into depth on how to use html5 tags to embed media in a website:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Using_HTML5_audio_and_video

The support volunteers on this site are not generally web developers (we are focused on supporting end users) so you may not be able to get much more detailed help here. If the link above doesn't help then I think you are best off reading around on the Developer Network or asking on a developer forum like StackOverflow.

I hope that helps.

All the same, it is not clear why Samsung Galaxy Firefox offers a plug-in activated, and Google Nexus 7 does not offer.

And this mp plugin works fine in Firefox for windows.

Did you first change your plugin settings to tap-to-play and then clear your site data?

It did not work, the plug still does not start. I still think that the problem in Firefox. In Google Chrome at my website perfectly play mp3.

Browser rendering engines work slightly differently from one another. As with any website you need to test on a range of browsers. If your site isn't working on a particular browser then something will need to be changed in the website to support that browser. Given that the plugin you are using specifically states that it supports only some android devices I think that is a pretty clear indicator of where the problem is.

This is a Firefox end-user support forum rather than a web developer forum (I am not a developer) so there is not much more I can do to help. I suggest asking in a web developer forum or the plugin developer for further help.

Thank you tried to help me.

The problem is that Firefox developers do not test it on all Androyd devices , and on tablets Google Nexus 7 as well.

This is another mp3 plugin that works in firefox for windows and does not work in firefox in Google Nexus 7: http://audiobook-online.com/songstest/demo/

Firefox and Firefox for Android are not the same. Just because something works in one doesn't mean it will work in the other.

  1. 1
  2. 2
