Why is Firefox so uncompatible with produts it was once compatible with? It no longer seems to work properly with, AVG, Zynga and most of the social networks?

As I stated above, Firefox seems to getting more incompatible with the sites I use it mostly for with each new upgrade. AS a matter of fact, it is rapidly getting to the point where I will soon no longer be able to use the Mozilla Firefox browser. It simply does not process apps correctly at far too many web sites.

Let me give you some little fixes and diagnostics.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

1. Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

I'm not sure this will work with a Zynga game, but it should help with the other sites. A more universal approach is to clear Firefox's cache completely:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

2. Remove the problem site's cookies in this dialog

While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

After removing the cookies, OK out and then try reloading the page. Does that help?


Your More system details doesn't list your graphics adapter information. To avoid graphics card driver conflicts, you can try disabling Firefox's hardware acceleration feature.

You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"


Your More system details doesn't list your extensions. To see whether extensions are interfering with the normal functioning of those sites, you can restart in Firefox's Safe Mode.

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode (Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode) using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

(Fx4-14) In the dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
(Fx15+) In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."

If the sites works correctly, this points to one of your extensions or possibly a custom setting as the problem.

Starting in June, there have been a lot of Flash-related issues for Firefox users. This may affect Zynga products as well as video sites. What other social network issues have you noticed?

AVG appears to have moved away from its old browser add-ons and now prefers you to use AVG Secure Search, which seems to be unpopular with users who have posted here. Which AVG features do you miss?

By the way, Firefox 7 is very old now and subject to numerous publicly disclosed security vulnerabilities. You should consider running an up-to-date browser to protect against malware, etc.

I uninstalled the latest version of Firefox about two days ago and reinstalled v7.1 because it simply worked better for me. I use 3rd party applications for malware, etc, and that has not been a problem for me. Never the less, thank you for your assistance with the problem...

So to better understand the situation: version 7 works exactly the way you want it, but version 15 did not work with your AVG add-ons and some websites.

If you do reinstall version 15 or higher, let's work through the website problems. Until then, be safe.

The flash related problems are the problems I am having with Firefox and for me the problem started long before June. The problem for me is more noticeable at Zynga Texas Hold em, via Facebook, and meetme.com's match seletion. As for AVG, I am aware of the changes that they made a short time ago but Firefox became incompatible long before AVG made any changes. As for the AVG protection that I need the most, it still seems to exist, still block attacks via Firefox and the other AVG features are not that difficult to live without. However, as I previously stated, Firefox seems to be getting worse and if that continues at the current pace it will soon become a browser that many of us simply can not use. I understand that certain changes have to be made to provide better browser protection but Mozilla seems to be sacrificing overall browser function. Again, thank you for your assistance...

No, Version 7 works better than the latest version but I still have tons of problems with both. Specifically, V7 has the same flash problem as v15 but v7 still blocks bad sites with AVG even though the check marks that was previously used is no longer available and for me v7 is faster...

Thanks! I've already tried some of the fixes that you provided to no avail and I will take a look at the rest before completely giving up on Firefox. As always, thank you for your support...

I tried loading Firefox in safe mode as you suggested in the " fixes and diagnostics" message you sent me, having only add-ons disabled and I immediately noticed that I no longer had the problem with Zynga Poker. Consequently, through trial and error I disabled add-ons to determine which add-on was causing the problem and it turned out to be Microsoft DRM. There was no option to remove it from Firefox so I just disabled it and so far that problem seems to have been solved. I will try to recreate the problem at one other site where I was having a problem to see if it fixes that also and if so I guess I can check this one as solved. Thanks...

Ooops! Correction, it turned out that the problem was the AVG Security Toolbar. I had to uninstall it the solve the problem I was having at Social Network sites...

AVG! Well, maybe you won't miss it as much as you thought if you upgrade to a more recent Firefox.
