My macbook froze and I had to power it off. When restarting and the opening ff, ff did not ask to restore previous session and i lost all tabs.

There is no record for previous session under menu bar. I know this is common, hopefully some one has a new answer. Thanks

The xtra74pv.default folder is the Firefox Profile Folder, so that file is in the correct place and needed be moved.

If you have an older version of the sessionstore.js file from before the crash then you need to replace the current sessionstore.js with the older copy to see if that brings back the lost tabs.

Are you using "Show my windows and tabs from last time"?

  • Firefox > Preferences > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

That setting usually work better if there are problems that require to kill Firefox or reboot the computer.
With other settings the data may not have been written to disk.

Do you have the Time Machine enabled?

If you have then you can see if you can find the sessionstore.js from around that time.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Thanks Cor-el. Yes, I do have that preference enabled and it usually works on a freeze, but not this time.

I also do have time machine going, but I did already find the sessionstore.js file, but nothing much happened when I opened it with ff. What do I do with it? I have two of the files, on seems to be way old, and another from my current session (not the one with my missing tabs). Also there is a sessionstore.bak file that I read I could use too. Can you please tell me how to use these?

Thanks!

You need to copy the sessionstore.js file to the Firefox Profile Folder to make Firefox restore the session in that file. Make sure that Firefox is closed completely when you make changes to files in the profile folder.
You can't open sessionstore.js directly because the file is in JSON object format and not very readable (one long line with no line breaks).

OK, the sessionstore.js is already inside a folder called xtra74pv.default, which is inside the profiles folder. So should I put sessionstore.js in the profles folder directly? ,then open ff?

Thanks for your help here.
