Why is Firefox constantly saying (not responding) in the tab while browsing?
There are constant pauses since updating to Firefox 6. It stops loading pages and says (not responding). This can be up to 10 to 15 seconds each time.
I have disabled add-ons one at a time, and have seen some improvement but it is still happening. Is there another fix? I now only have one add-on and think this is not the solution. From a post an another website, I have heard from others about having this same issue.

Three problems have plagued firefox since netscapeland:
- sane memory use
- extensions management (no, not simply listing them, but resolving conflicts amongst them)
- stealing FOCUS()
Maybe in a few more decades these "minor" issues will be addressed
Do you mean when you uninstall it and it asks you if you also want to remove all the saved FF data and personal info. Other than that, not sure what you mean.

I have no idea what you mean when saying creating a new profile. Are you talking about creating a new user on my computer?
I wasn't sure what you meant by removing profile. But, this time I did select the option during uninstall that supposedly completely removes data and personal info. I also did a search on computer for any mozilla or firefox folders and deleted them also. I then reinstalled FF 7. So far so good. It's been a few hours now.
I also tried Chrome again and still don't like it. No page download status bar and no drop down arrow in address bar for website history. Deal breakers for me.
I hope this complete reinstall of FF7 works. In my opinion, when FF works correctly, it just can't be beat.
By creating a new profile I meant go to Start, then Run, then type in:
firefox.exe -p (there's a space between the e and the dash)
The screen that pops up gives you the option to create a new Firefox profile.
The above is for Windows 7. It should be the same for earlier versions of Windows as well.

I didn't do it that way. But, since I had to redo all my FF settings, passwords, bookmarks etc and reinstall all the addons I use, does that mean I created a new profile?
I also have windows 7 and am using FF7
I would go back to FF if this wasn't so much trouble. I will think about it. Thanks for your help. I am disappointed that someone from FF wasn't able to help.

Seems good so far. Keeping fingers crossed.
FF adblockers are freaking awesome.
IE9 has the tracking lists, but, still doesn't get everything and they block my fantasy football rosters from showing up on my page. :(
Well it's been about 24 hours since I did a reinstall and created a new profile and it has worked. No problems at all.

Im sure there are other ways to do this, but, go into the control panel to uninstall a program and remove/uninstall any mozilla or ff in there. Select yes to remove all the personal data/profile. Also, search for any mozilla and firefox folders on your computer and delete them. Then, download and install FF of your choice. I'm using FF 8. It's been running flawless ever since I followed that process. I know there was another release after FF 8.
This should fix it if your problem was a FF problem and not something else. Hope it works for you.
There's an easier way. Click 'Start' and then 'Run'. Type in:
In the window that pops up you can create a new profile without having to uninstall Firefox. :)
Just to be clear, there is a space between .exe and -p.
