I'm currently using FF 3.6.13 on Windows 7 X64. I've finally got wireless online with Reliance Netconnect in India.

I have tried numerous times to download from the web, ranging from the VLC program to JPG files attached to emails. When prompted, I click "Save file." Then I can't find the file. There's nothing in my "Downloads" folder.

I WAS able to do this some months earlier on a land line in India and also the last time I was in the US.

Thanks for your help!

  • Click on Tools menu and select Downloads.
  • You should see a list of the files that you have downloaded.
  • Right-click on a file and select Open Containing Folder.
  • The folder where the file was downloaded would be opened.

Thank you for responding so promptly.

The problem is that I do what you suggest and when I go to Tools > Downloads, the list is empty.

(In the past, when downloads was working on this same computer, I could find the files there...)

Another way of figuring out where downloaded files are being saved:

  1. Select Tools > Options
  2. Select the General tab
  3. Under Downloads section, note the settings for the Save files to option

It is possible that no files are actually being downloaded. You can refer to this article for troubleshooting: What to do if you can't download or save files.

In addition, since your Downloads window is blank, you can check if a Firefox setting is causing it:

  1. Select Tools > Options
  2. Select the Privacy tab
  3. Under the History section, ensure that the Firefox will option is not set to Never remember history.

Dynamite,

I did as you said and went to Tools> Options> General. Under Downloads, the Save Files to button is "on" and there is no destination file name. When I click on the browse button, nothing happens.

I'm not sure this is a problem but there is also no way to turn the Save Files button off. The "Show Downloads window when downloading" is also checked. Under Tools> Options > Privacy, it's set to Custom, not Never remember history.

So the lack of a destination folder is a problem, just I don't know how to fix it.

(I just tried downloading 3.6.18 thinking that might help, but the message said the partial download failed and it would download the whole thing, I said OK and then it hung.)

Dear Dynamite,

Well, wonders never cease... I closed Firefox after the update failed and when I reopened it, the Save Files to showed Downloads, the Browse feature works and I downloaded the files and can find them.

Thank you so much for your help!
