Firefox just auto installed 5, eliminating 4 - during the process, a Window appeared advising that the Firefox 5 does not support the Norton security nor toolbars, but said to click for a search. I did and was instructed Firefox cannot find a solution. The problem is that all my user names and passwords have disappeared into Firefox heaven (or hell) - Question, Can I backtrack, uninstall 5 and recover 4, so that I can reinstate the Norton 360 security tool bar? I look forward to receiving an answer ASAP. thank you, Michael chang

The passwords are still saved by Norton. Use Internet Explorer instead.

Phewey,

whilst attempting to solve this problem yesterday afternoon, (getting to a point of cross-eyed frustration), a Norton Window appeared notifying all registered users that a Firefox 5 toolbox patch was just put in place and available through the 'live update' tool. They must have been working on this tweak while receiving all the queries and complaints.

I've almost stopped using I.E. altogether because it doesn't seem to let me download the Adobe Flash Player update: 10.3.181.26, despite following all I.E. and/or Adobe instructions. The update was easily installed using Firefox, so Firefox is my main browser. The heck with I.E. and its instructions.

Thanks for getting back to me. Michael

We have three PCs with the latest update of Norton Internet Security. We rely on its toolbar for our passwords. Two out of the three PCs upgraded seamlessly to Firefox 5 and added the Norton Tool bar when Firefox 5 opened after installation. Go figure why the third PC didn't get the tool bar option even after restarting it. Norton was added to all the PCs at the same time. I will go back to an older version of Firefox before I resort to IE, but sure would like to know why one out of three PCs doesn't show the option to add the Norton toolbar.

I'm experiencing similar problems to Lainy's third PC - have updated IE three times, still no toolbar in FF5 - hence no auto fill of logins etc etc. I can still access the list via Norton, but the convenience of the toolbar is essential - but not there!!!!

dear Lainey and GazzaSTL

I was advised by Norton to download a patch from LiveUpdate. After this installation, I reopened Firefox 5 and the Norton Toolbox with the Identity button was there. Evidently they had been working on the problem while getting so many questions and complaints from Firefox users.

I heard that Norton released an update patch for Firefox 5.0 on Tuesday 06-21 when Firefox 5.0 was released. (versus taking their normal six to eight weeks) Some Norton users have reported that the toolbar may not work if the Norton patch was installed before Firefox 5.0, instead if after Firefox 5.0 was already installed.

OK I have got my Identity Safe working in FF5 - I found advice on the Norton site that said to uninstal NIS11 and then reinstal, then run update until it said things were fully up to date. Then restart the computer; I did all that, and hey presto, the Identity Safe logo is there in the toolbar!

If you decide to go this route, be sure to opt to save the NIS settings passwords etc when prompted to do so during the uninstal process.

If you're still having problems and don't want to perform a complete uninstall/re-install of your Norton product, this trick might work for you.

I was able to recover the Norton Toolbar in Firefox 5.0 by closing Firefox, deleting the Firefox file extensions.sqlite from my hard drive, and then re-starting Firefox once or twice while connected to the Internet. Firefox re-built the deleted extension profile and correctly re-enabled the Norton Toolbar. It may take a few re-starts of Firefox (or possibly a Windows re-boot) before the extensions compatibility profile is correctly re-built.

On my computer the extensions.sqlite file was found at C:\Users\Lori\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\t8xvl799.default\extensions.sqlite (where Lori is my Windows username and t8xvl799 is my default Firefox profile name - this path will vary for every user).

My compatibility checking in Firefox for other add-ons seems to be working normally. It still correctly recognises that the Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.2.2 and Bookmark Duplicate Detector 1.0.4 are incompatible with Firefox 5.0 without disabling the Norton Toolbar.

Kudos to Tony Weiss (Symantec Administrator) for suggesting this solution. Apologies if you've already seen this solution cross-posted on the Norton NIS forum.

Oh sure, every time FireFox has an update Norton's Identity Safe Tootbar does not appear...it happened with Firefox 3, 4 and now 5.....however Internet Explorer does not seem to ever have this problem.

If you Upgrade I.E.....I.E. works, slow but working.

And you will have those who say Use I.E. then and why!? I am using Firefox not I.E. as I.E. is too slow and it has a Tab issue, it will not open a link in a New Tab if you right click and select that option.

I would think some things are elementary, stop excluding features, keep the classic look, ease of operation some of us old timers are use to....I going back 25+ years.

Hi Lori, I have 10 extensions.sqlite all related to Thunderbird Profiles for the 10 e-mail address I have using Thunderbird, so I wonder how that has to do with FF5 - Norton Identity Safe's Tool Bar allowing it to work.

And the file extensions.sqlite is not found Program Files/Mozilla/Firefox, so I guess I missed something in your solution.

FiredocUSMC:

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Thunderbird so I can't comment on why you have so many extensions.sqlite files on your hard drive. You may want to double-check the path I mentioned in my post - you were in the wrong folder if you were looking in C:\Program Files.

If you still can't find the correct folder where your Firefox profile is located, you can follow the instructions at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles . From the Firefox menu, you can go to Help | Troubleshooting Information | Application Basics | Profile Directory and then click on the "Open Containing Folder" button. The extensions.sqlite file I'm referring to should be listed there in your default Firefox profile folder.

If you think that you've created multiple Firefox profiles you may want to go to https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles to learn how to use the Profile Manager to manage each profile.

It appears that Symantec delivered another Norton Internet Security product update today (07-Jul-2011) for the Norton Toolbar via LiveUpdate. Users on the NIS/NAV forum are reporting that their Norton Toolbar v. 5.6 and Symantec IPS v. 2.0 add-ons for Firefox have now been upgraded to Norton Toolbar v. 2011.7.0.8 and Symantec IPS v. 3.0 (see gina's post here) after a Windows re-boot.

I'm not sure if a similar upgrade was released today for Norton 360, but hopefully this will solve the missing toolbar problem some of you are still experiencing.
