Firefox 4 (on Windows XP) seems to have lost various useful items, notably the icons for stopping the downloading of a web site and for calling up ones home page. I can also no longer find any way of altering the length of time my history is kept.

Firefox 4 uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
You can middle-click that Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.

You can find the Home button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar.

In Firefox 4 you can no longer specify how long to keep the history. Firefox 4 determines automatically how many pages can be kept without affecting the performance.

You can see the current value via the pref places.history.expiration.transient_max_pages

Thank you. Very useful information as I did not notice the home page icon on the far right and was feeling extemely frustrated that my familiar icon had disappeared. Would prefer the icon to be in a more convenient position. Is there any way to relocate it?

To move the Stop and Reload buttons to their position to the left of the location bar you can use these steps:

  • Open the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window to move the Stop and Reload button out of the location bar.
  • Drag the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position to the left of the location bar.
  • Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
  • Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise to get two distinct buttons.

Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
