I tried FF 4 twice and the result was the same in my two experiments. FF 4 resets my PC.

I am a veteran Mozilla product user since Netscape days and I don't know why this happens now. I uninstalled 3.6 before installing 4.0.

No, nothing changed.

All of a sudden, the PC resets itself and this happens only when FF 4 is installed and being used.

FF 4 doesn't crash. No error message.

This a 3 year old XP machine, clean, carefully maintained and used only by me, a 40 year old experienced PC user.

So, what should I do?

I have firefox 4 and firefox 3.6 installed on Windows XP no problems.

I suggest you backup your profile either use mozbackup or make a complete copy of your profile folder and put it somewhere safe. (That should ensure if you have any accidents you do not loose personal data)

Then make a new additional profile for firefox 4 using profile manager see profiles and install firefox 4 using a custom instalation, and putting it in a separate folder to firefox 3.6. You then also need to create a shortcut for the new firefox 4 using the -P switch. see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Testing_pre-release_versions#Install...

You will then be able to use both versions on your computer. Continue using firefox 3.6 as normal, setting it to not update. Then try firefox 4 in firefox safe mode and try to troubleshoot the problems of firefox 4, see

I think I found the cause. Can anyone try FF 4 or 5 with Satinez persona? http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/persona/107264

Not sure I have seen a problem. I have installed it on 4.0.1 with no problem seen. I tried it on 6.0a, and the install process lost the tread I was typing in . But no sign of the PC resetting or firefox failing, both versions currently running.

Maybe others will also try it. Were you getting immediate problems with this persona?

Have you tried in safe mode ?

After I posted here my FF 5.0 rebooted my PC again. Satinez theme was off but add-ons were active. Now I am trying FF 5 with addons disabled but Satinez is on and no problems up to now. The screenshot of my addons is below.

As the problem is now also happening with firefox 5 possibly the problem is not even directly related to Firefox. Overheating noticeable on video use for instance, or a loose or faulty memory card. You could try another browser.

You say the resets are not firefox crashes, have you tried XPs 'event viewer' available from the control panel, does that throw any light on what is happening.

Well, no it is not a overheating problems since I monitor temperatures of CPU, GPU and hard drives by Speedfan. Not a cable problem either. This happens only when I use FF 4 or 5.

I disabled all the addons and FF 5 is working fine now. I have to find out which addon cause this problem.

The problem seems to be solved. It is the Shockwave Flash. Please see: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2252069&p=11025179

Using an older version solves all problems.

But Mozilla should handle with this and find a solution.

It may be worth checking video drivers are up to date, and also note both Firefox itself and FlashPlayer have settings for hardware acceleration consider turning that off.
