Hello Carl.

See this article:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Location+bar+autocomplete

I hope it helps. If it doesn't, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.

If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

Hi Morbus,

Thanks for your tips. However, it did not answer my question and solve my problem.

I do not have any add-ons--zero--just the stock Firefox downloaded a couple of days ago.

What I want it to do is just show me the URL as I am typing, not the other stuff. An example of what I want is attached.

Hope this solves the issue. The screen shot I have selected by browsing in the Screenshot field does not show up in the preview, so I don't this this is working right. I tried both a png and jpg.

And thanks for helping.

No, it's not showing Carl. Sorry.

You may want to try a service like http://imageshack.us/ to get around the 200KB limit here.

You can set the pref browser.urlbar.default.behavior to 33 (visited+typed) or 49 (match url+visited+typed) on the about:config page. See also: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.urlbar.default.behavior

Thanks cor-el.

Sorry to say, this did not answer the question. Your answer dealt with where the urlbar searches (0:History, 1:Bookmarks, 2:Tags, 5:Typed) when the user types into the location bar.

I want to change the format of what is displayed. What comes back is two lines for each listing containing the favicon and styled URL/title information in the first line with the second line containing the URL.

What I want is to see only ONE LINE containing only the URL. I think this is how browers looked right after the Big Bang.

How do I do this? (Hint: this is exactly what Safari does, but I would prefer using Firefox)

Carl, you may want to search for an extension that does this:

http://addons.mozilla.org/

I'm pretty certain there are some that do this. I have a custom userChrome.css code to change the size and colors of the suggestions, I don't know if it helps if you want to do the code yourself (and know how to).

   .ac-comment {
   font-size: 100%! important;
   color: #444444 ! important;
   }
   .ac-comment[selected=”true”] { color: #FFFFFF !important; }
   .ac-url-text {
   font-size: 80% ! important;
   color: #336633 ! important;
   }
   .ac-url-text[selected=”true”] { color: #FFFFFF !important; }

Morbus and cor-el:

That addon was exactly what I wanted. It works great.

Many thanks.
