On Wednesday March 19th from 2PM - 2:15PM PDT (9PM - 9:15PM UTC), we will be performing system maintenance for about 15 minutes, probably less. During that brief maintenance window, the site will be in read-only mode, so users will not be able to login to their accounts or create/modify content.

Where does GOsearch appear? For example:

(1) When you launch a new window (Ctrl+N). This usually is controlled by the home page setting, but an add-on can override it. See:

(2) When you search from Firefox's address bar.

Does the first line of the drop-down mention using GOsearch, or does it say it will use Google (or DuckDuckGo, etc.) and your request is hijacked over to GOsearch?

In the case where the top line of the drop-down mentions GOsearch, you should be able to change the default search engine setting back to what you prefer. See: Change your default search settings in Firefox.

In the case of a hijack, you probably need to clean out a rogue extension. Steps for that below the line.

(3) As a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar. Usually right-click > Delete Bookmark will solve this. Or does it keep coming back?

(4) As a tab that can't easily be closed. Maybe it's a pinned tab? See: Pinned Tabs - keep favorite websites open and just a click away.

(5) Somewhere else?

Extension Cleanup

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • click the Extensions button (puzzle piece) on the toolbar > Manage Extensions
  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

If there is at least one extension before the next heading -- "Recommended Extensions" -- please continue:

Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove). For your privacy and security, don't let mystery programs linger here.

Any improvement?

Note: Sometimes extensions can frustrate access to this page. In that case, first restart Firefox in its Troubleshot Mode and then try again. See: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode -- Open, not Refresh.
