Firefox initially has no sound for videos, fixes don't stick
Hi, this is on FF 95 with Win11. Used to have no problems until upgrading to Win11, so something sort of broke with the interplay between the two.
--First noticed on YouTube, no audio for videos. --Then, lots of other places too. My audio device works fine, plays computer system sounds, local mp3s, etc., it's a bluetooth Bose. But internet vids have no sound.
In some threads I researched,the solution seemed to be to go through the sound mixer and check output settings. I did that to no avail. Everything seemed fine, although it calls the bluetooth speaker "headphones." And then to make sure the browser had the right to use the mic (but the bluetooth speaker has no mic). I did that to no avail. Then, what seemed to work was autoplay settings. Changing the autoplay setting for videos to "on" for FF, fixed the problem after rebooting the browser.
Or, so I thought. In fact, every time I come back, I have to do it again. Or, I have to pretend to do it again. The setting to allow autoplay remains correct, as I left it. Oddly, just going back into that portion of settings seems to have some effect. I guess I'm giving it a dirty look. ;) Then, reboot browser, works again, as before.
I have to do this for every session (or, actually, I'm just loading Edge; it's faster) to get audio fro internet videos.
Any suggestions on how to make this fix permanent? Again, the setting stays where I leave it. But it is as if it has to be changed again.

Thanks, I had seen some of these before. The first two are not on point as they do not address audio/video.
The third, regarding media pack, I originally tried and saw. However, I am dealing with Win11. I don't see anything specific for Win11. But the advice in that #3 to install a media service pack under add optional features, seems impossible to implement. It isn't there.
Number 4 was the one I tried to work through before. It was "allow autoplay" that seemed to work. The problem is that it doesn't "stick," as described in the OP. Play DRM content is checked in FF. My cache is cleared on exit every time. I do not use adblocking software. It is set to remember history. Regarding pop-up windows, the videos play fine--it is just that they have no audio, which renders moot many of these little checklist things. I am reluctant to reset preferences universally. It has taken me a long time to get FF where I want it. There is one specific problem. That shouldn't require resetting every single preference. There are other things in this like HTML5 and the like I don't understand and don't know what to do about--but again, this is one small thing: audio with video.
Number 5 doesn't seem on point. #6 is mostly about plugins that seem obsolete and should not matter. These are pretty big sites like YouTube and Twitter. "End of Flash support...." is a comment repeated in one way or another on most of #6. The final one is related, and says things like "If Firefox shows you a "Warning: Unresponsive plugin" prompt, it means that a plugin, like Flash, is taking longer than expected to do what you requested. This article covers some solutions and workarounds." I'm not getting warnings like that. But at least until buying a new computer with win11 preinstalled and downloading FF 95, there was no problem.
The video works. The websites work. The audio doesn't unless I go into settings every time and pretend to play around with "allow autoplay." Then it works fine. For that session. That would seem to be a clue, but it may be a clue that is specific to the interplay with Win11, which none of these articles address. I suspect that is the issue somehow. #4 seems to be the most relevant, and the one I'd worked through before I posted. If I'm missing something about it, I don't know what at this point as I've gotten it to work--just not "stay fixed."

No even hints of what might be happening? It is doubly frustrating because I can sometimes get it to work. And then next time it doesn't again and I have to load Edge.
This is a new set of circumstances in at least one way: new desktop with Win 11, which wasn't the case until recently; coupled with bluetooth speakers, i.e., not wired and identified as "headphones" by windows. That latter was the case in my prior desktop's Win 10 configuration as well, and it worked fine.
Plug something into the speaker jack. Does it work?
Open the Windows Volume Mixer. Do the settings look okay?
I have gone through the windows volume mixer since the beginning of this. It always looks okay. I always reset it anyway. Doesn't fix the problem.
The Bluetooth speaker or the computer? But either way it shouldn't make any difference. I can hear YouTube play just fine on Microsoft edge with no changes whatsoever. I can hear other sounds from the system, including web-based (but not Firefox based) sounds like zoom, come through the Bluetooth speaker with no changes. So the speaker works. It's not a wired setting so it shouldn't have anything to do with the jack on the computer itself or or the Bluetooth speaker, I would assume.
