Firefox deleted all my data (this includes bookmarks, browsing history and everything you can think of)
This morning my firefox opened normally and nothing was out of the ordinary. Later today I turned on my laptop again and when I opened firefox it asked me to make a "profile". I thought that maybe firefox had updated and was now using profiles or something, so I choose to "create new profile" and just left it at its default name. Upon opening I noticed that all my data was gone...

Maybe try this way:
Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
- Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next.
- Assign the old profile name default-release and Firefox should show a proposed folder name with a new random part.
- Click the "Choose Folder..." button and select the old profile folder so that Firefox picks up the full old name. -- Make sure you are pointing to the folder in the Roaming path (not the Local path):
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\akedqkhp.default-release - Back in Firefox, click the Done button.
After creating a new profile, Firefox usually makes it your default profile (for external links and the next startup). To test, scroll down to it and click the Launch profile in new browser button.
Did it work?
If so, you're done.
If not, you can close that window without affecting your regular Firefox profile and change back to the profile you started with before this post. Click the Set as Default Profile button below your fresh profile.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

I tried following the steps in this article, but after attempting to copy the content from my old profile folder to my new one nothing really changed

There's not a folder called "Old firefox" and there never has been one in any of the times my firefox has been updated tbh.
Start Firefox. Then type about:profiles in the address bar and press enter.

Under that profile, press the button: Set As Default You should now be seeing that profile being used. If not, restart the browser.
