Hi tomkin, could you explain the steps I should take to replicate this problem. Is this a search using the address bar? Does it matter what the first and second search are for?

Hi, A few weeks ago I was using Firefox my main search engine, I opened " Patient Access Application" and logged in as I have done for a few years to order my tablets from my GP then logged out, still in Patient Access I tried to login to my Wife account to order her tablets. Firefox had done an update around this time, T think I was using V87 or 88 but when I checked I was now on V89. it is now V90 because I have deleted and re-installed it. the first page comes up OK but when I tried to make a second link FF after while FF times out many times. I tried to close it down and it won't close, I then use Task manager to delete it, it goes from the "Application list" if I try to use it, its says FF is still running. I can't use it. my only choice is to delete Firefox and re-install it and I end up in the same situation. I have tried CHROME but end up in the same situation. I have tried other Browsers and the thing happens As a side a couple of months ago I was trying to pay a bill but it forced me to use MS Edge which I don't normally use I noticed that on 15 May Edge created a file under Edge so I deleted Edge, no change. In my research I found the Task Scheduler gives ‘0x8004131f’, I uninstalled RealPlayer, reinstalled FF and access Facebook, BBC weather, then Barclays online login, I ended up in the same situation FF timeout. This problem is driving me mad !

If I put in an Address (URL) it received it and gives me a page, If I then try the link it goes into a loop and times out.

HI Tom, if I understand correctly, you click a link in a web page and Firefox

(A) doesn't load the page and

(B) becomes non-responsive (for example, clicking the X (Stop) button on the toolbar doesn't work, pressing Esc doesn't work, you can't do anything else in Firefox) so you need to "kill" Firefox

Is that correct?

One method to suss out an issue with settings or add-ons is:

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test your problem site(s).

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like July2021, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.

Scroll down to July2021 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system to get a clean test.

Do the problem site(s) work any better in the new profile?

When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (July2021 will remain available for future testing.)
