Google Products Failing on Firefox

more options

For about a month, google products on firefox randomly stop working.

- I get the "Oops...error #001" in gmail, when i reload it just continues to get an error cycle until eventually it goes to network protocol error.

- Google search randomly does not work at all in the url/search bar, and once it doesn't work the tab is useless. Putting in another URL and hitting enter it appears to have loaded but of course nothing has changed.

- I have no extensions installed.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

@FredMcD -

I cleared cookies & cache several times, this didn't fix it.

I disabled all extensions & add ons, this didn't fix it.

I started in troubleshoot mode, the problem still occurred. Seems weird that it's only google products that are having trouble in Firefox.

Hi katherine.ranieri,

Try Refreshing your Browser:-

  • To do this, click the menu button at the top right corner of the Firefox window.
  • Click the “Help” option near the bottom of the menu.
  • Click the “Troubleshooting Information” option in the Help menu.
  • Click the “Refresh Firefox” button at the top right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page.
  • You’ll be warned that this will remove your browser add-ons, reset your customizations, and revert other browser data to the default settings. Click “Refresh Firefox” to confirm you want to make these changes.

Thanks Shashank Shekhar.

Refreshed firefox, no change. Did a clean install, no change. Still getting the Oops...error #001

Because this was impacting my work so significantly I had to ditch Firefox for Brave. This really sucks. I love firefox until this happened. After searching the internet extensively, seems like i'm not the only one having this problem. https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Workspace-Q-A/Firefox-and-gmail-error-001/m-p/162025

You can do a malware scan just to be sure.

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

The problem went away for a while, I did do a malware scan, but since the mozilla update last week or whenever it was the problem is back.

I am connecting from my work computer so cannot change the proxy settings.

I am super annoyed that this problem is back. If I use duckduckgo for my search engine instead of google that works, but it's just not as good of a search engine, and of course the gmail issues of Oops error #001 still occurs regularly since the update.
