I'm getting very sick and tired of Firefox updating. Is there any way to stop this? If not I'll ditch Firefox.

Thanks, Dave

Step one: How do you completely turn off update checks in Firefox v64? You can use a policies.json file to disable updates for all users. https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md or https://winaero.com/blog/disable-updates-firefox-63-above/

You can use a policies.json file in the distribution folder in the Firefox installation folder instead as also listed in the article, so no need to use GPO keys in the Windows Registry. • https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-policiesjson

I keep deleting the update folder in Firefox 'Data settings' this is a hidden file. Infact I let Crap Cleaner do it for me!.

I am now sick and tired of Firefox and evalueating Brave Browser.

HAVING IT AS AN OPTION IN THE TOOL MENU AND DOING IT BEHIND YOUR BACK IS DAMNED WELL DESGUSTING AND MISLEADING!

Hi EF80,

  1. Go to Settings > General
  2. Under Firefox Updates set it to Check for updates but let you choose to install them

If you still get updates, please let us know.

Chris, IT DOES NOT WORK, I know it and many other people KNOWS it!

Having the option not to update and it being FORCED on you behind your back is a DECEPTION, Chris ansmer this WHY does it NOT WORK? This is deceiving and a deception - Is there not a law suit here?

I do wish people at Mozilla would stop playing silly devils, obviously to me that YOU MUST KNOW other people are having the same problem.... maybe it'd you want to ignore this matter and sweep it under the carpet.

The option of not having updates should either be carried out or that option should be removed -period-

Hi EF80,

When you say that it does not work, do you mean that it is not letting you choose when to install updates?

more options

When I say it does not work... Oh, yes 'I' can select the option, I'm not that stupid...... you STILL GET UPDATED even with the options selected.

Please Chris don't just take 'my' word... go have a look round the internet and not just on Mozilla site, then you will understand? No matter what is selected...... sooner or later the updates are FORCED on to you.

We are getting nowhere here, either do something about it, escalate or leave it - I haven't the time anymore there are many other browsers out there.

Hi EF80, I have the same setting set, and Firefox has always prompted me before installing an update. There's another setting that might be causing your issue. Can you please uncheck Use a background service to install updates.

more options

Chris for the VERY last time I have tried all those options and settings.

I have.... Check for updates but let you choose to install them CHECKED I have.... Use a background service to install updates CHECKED

The problem is the darn thing after awhile the UPDATES are forced on you

The updates are forced on you -period- just what do you not understand here?.... Before anyone suggest yes I have tried a clean install.... I DO mean a clean install Chris - I scoured all the registry and all the hidden folders for this damned browser and deleted them.

Guess what another update arrives and the whole thing repeats itself - "I" say what goes on "MY" computer not the nextdoor neighbour and not MOZILLA - OK?

Mozilla must be really cobbled with so many bugs?

I have.... Use a background service to install updates CHECKED

Was that a typo? I asked you to uncheck it. ☺️

Sorry Chris my bad, you are quite right it's a typo error

Should read-: Use a background service to install updates UN-CHECKED to clarify.... Check for updates but let you choose to install them CHECKED , I tried all configuration's over time.

I've had enough here, just got to get away from this browser, used it since Firefox 1.5, dy'a know I wouldn't care if my entire account was deleted, we're getting nowhere and round in circles here, gotta stop.

Time to ditch Firefox... that'll do it.

Hi EF80, Do you share a computer with anyone else? Maybe their profile was set to allow updates, and it updated for them.

more options

No, I don't share this computer with anybody I am the administrator .... for the last time-:

Mozilla updates via the back door, please Chris comprehend on what is being said - for goodness sake DON'T take 'my' word... take a look around these forums, take a look around other forums - it's not just me that is complaining.

Unless there is a fix don't bother dragging me to this forum.... folkes around here sauggest trying this and that AND they NEVER work, yot can hack the registry Mozilla/Firefox ploicies, you can insert a .json file and you still get blasted updates.

I did ask a question and noted no answer..... why is their options 'Check for updates but let you choose to install them' and 'Use a background service to install updates' - which IS UNCHECKE, they don't damn well work do they and I'm pretty sure YOU KNOW they don't, I know they don't and many other people know they don't.

Just what the hell is going on? Unless there is a fix - a KNOWN fix don't keep dragging me to this forum.

Hi EF80, I believe you. I'm trying to help you fix the problem. Isn't that why you posted here?

If so, would you be willing to troubleshoot the issue over a zoom call?

more options

Don't work.... No matter what I try, no matter what I do and no matter wghat I alter in about:config I still get updates.

For Your information I've turnmed all the telemetry off...! I've messed about with the updates config... they still come - whats the secret Mozilla?

I am valuating other browsers on another computer... Mozilla are up to all sorts of tricks and using us as guinnea pigs!

Hi EF80, Would you be willing to troubleshoot the issue over a zoom call?

more options

No...! Mozilla KNOWS what the hell is going on....

lol, this is getting hillarious. NOW if I disconnect the internet delete the update files.... they are back in a flash when I start Firefox WITH NO INTERNET CONNECTION, so whats changed?

Why on Gods Earth is their options not to install but to download the file in the menu. Why so man telemetry pings.... one marked Experimental or somethiung - I've DELETED, by gone - not there now OK?

Just get the DAMNED THING FIXED, I've had enough of FIREFOX!
