Hi, The vams.cdc.gov portal is just showing a blank page, the cdc site says that firefox is a browser to use and also says chrome, safari etc. I need to get on the site because I have to register my mother for over 75 to get the vaccine. I have a phone modem and windows 7. Trying to download either of the other browsers is a long long long download. Anybody know the fix to getting this portal working. I noticed that it uses the Aura framework ie window.Aura By the way the page source is there, and the title bar does show VAMS Portal, just the blank page though. Thanks for helping if you can. Steve

I was redirected to https://vams.cdc.gov/vaccineportal/s/login/?ec=302&startURL=%2Fvaccineportal%2Fs%2F

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Adding to Fred's note, the server sends three redirects:

Original Request: http://vams.cdc.gov/

301 - Server tells browser to use: https://vams.cdc.gov/vaccineportal/

Second Request: https://vams.cdc.gov/vaccineportal/

301 - Server tells browser to use: https://vams.cdc.gov/vaccineportal/s/

Third Request: https://vams.cdc.gov/vaccineportal/s/

When Firefox runs that page, a script checks logged in status and if the user is not logged in, the script directs Firefox to load:

https://vams.cdc.gov/vaccineportal/s/login?ec=302&startURL=%2Fvaccineportal%2Fs%2F

That is a lot of redirects.

If you are getting a blank page for redirects, please make sure the redirect block is turned off:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste access and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the accessibility.blockautorefresh preference is bolded and has a value of true, double-click it to restore the default value of false

Hi, None of it worked for both replies, the same outcome. I have a console file to put up, don't know it it will make a difference. The redirect should show the login but I am not even getting that. I do have a log you in url that was sent via email, so that does not work either. I'll post the file: Thanks Steve browser.startup.average_time - Truncating float/double number. Hi Steve, due to the URLs in your reply, your post is sitting in the spam link moderation queue for review. It should appear at some point.

For future posts, if you insert a space before the .com or .gov that should help (you can use the Preview Reply button to confirm that the forum doesn't detect it as a link).

But for now, I think the main takeaway is at least 4 instances of Loading failed for the <script> with source pointing to the CDC site. If those are still blocked in Firefox's Safe Mode, then it should not be caused by one of your extensions. But what is preventing those scripts from loading? Hmm.

It's possible that the unusual codes in those URLs are triggering some kind of data protection filter. Do you use any external browsing filters like the ones in security suites from Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, ESET, or Kaspersky, or any "data leak prevention" software, or any proxy server?

more options

Hi, Yes I do have Avast and I did think about it and tried to turn it off, but there is no off option, also had Mcafee, there something in fire fox in options that says Your browser is being managed by your organization. That still might be Mcafee that has been uninstalled but I think it is still in the background, I also have been on another computer with the same results and different phone lines, that comp also had mcafee and has avast.

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve, the Avast filter is called WebShield and there is some info on turning it off in the following article:

How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites

more options

Hi. That didn't help, sorry to be a pest. There is the Your browser is being managed by your organizationwhich is Certificates ImportEnterpriseRoots true Is that possibly the problem, fire fox is up to date also. That could be mcafee maybe also? I would have to get rid of it but unsure how, read that it is or used to be called man in the middle Thanks again Steve

more options

That policy probably was set up by Avast. This bypasses Firefox's built-in certificate store and points Firefox to using the Windows system certificate store. That should be fine.

I don't know what else could be blocking those scripts from loading. Does McAfee filter your browsing?

You could check the network settings here:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Settings" button in the Network Settings section. Go ahead and click that.

The default of "Use system proxy settings" piggybacks on your Windows/IE "LAN" setting. "Auto-detect" can lead to a flaky connection. You may want to try "No proxy".

Any difference?

Hi, Nothing is working, don't know what to do, both computers different phone lines. One computer with windows 7 and the other with windows 10, I did also try different compatibility modes. I am on Phone Modems no network or wifi. Don't get it, the page code is there, just those script errors!

Thanks Steve

On the Windows 10 computer, does the Microsoft Edge browser work with the site?

more options

Edge is not working just to get any web page up. That hasn't been used on that computer since it was purchased probably about 5 years ago, I think I tried to use it a few times and didn't have any luck. I just tried it and no luck, I did the clearing and all that and setting the connection and it won't work right, I think there was or is still a lot of trouble with edge. So Edge wasn't an available test bed. This is really bugging me now, there has got to be some solution. I am still using a dial up connection no wifi.

Hi, The site came up on Internet Explorer, it did not come up before because I tried more than a few times to load it. The url vams-cdc-gov showed and so did the login, but when I tried the registration link which is a link like vams-cdc-gov/vaccineportal/s/pre-registration?cpId=f1964f5730ae69e36ed8078 it only showed the bottom of the page, the link may have expired, there was no time limit given so I am not sure and also the site is not supposed to run on explorer, I was looking at internet options and may have enabled something but I am no sure and don't remember, but anyway the site did show on that browser but still will not show on the others. At this point I am going to have to have my mother call the number and do it that way. But until she does I would still like to solve this problem, and just because I can't give up, I have to get it figured out.

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve, I'm sorry I haven't been able to figure out what is preventing those scripts from loading. Do you want to test in a new profile in case it is a setting that we're not thinking of? Here's how:

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test your problem site(s).

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like Jan2021, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.

Scroll down to Jan2021 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system to get a clean test.

Does the site work any better in the new profile?

When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (Jan2021 will remain available for future testing.)

Hi, That didn't work, I did make a post but it went to moderation. That post said that I was able to open vams cdc gov in Internet Explorer. That page came up and so did the login, now when I put the special link in for the pre registration that page just loaded the bottom of the page, the link may have expired, not sure. Explorer wasn't supposed to work anyway. But the regular link did show in IE. Something to note, I do have to have my mother call the number to register on the phone, but I still do want to figure this problem out because it is just bugging me.
