Firefox (7)
When I right-click the Firefox tray icon several items are displayed in a list. One of them is "Firefox (7)". Is it supposed to say that? It doesn't on my laptop, and both are running v 84.0.1.

Why not provide a screenshot?
Indeed. Hope it provides additional information.
Let me see if I can replicate in Win10. My daily driver is openSUSE, but I don't recall Firefox being in the systray, but the taskbar. Can you provide a full screenshot showing Firefox icon?
Modified
Yeah, Firefox is not in the systray, but on the taskbar and here is what I see. I have about 30 tabs open, but that is not reflected in the taskbar icon and it shows other options you may want to click on. No issue.
Modified
Not systray but taskbar. Sorry, wrong word. A right click on the Firefox icon in the taskbar shows "Firefox (7)" regardless of the number of tabs open, including zero.
When you click on the 7 what happens?
When I click anywhere on the "Firefox (7)" line a new window opens.

It worked just as outlined for Windows7, with one revision for Windows10. Win10 Settings doesn't have an "Appearance" option, but a search for "show" on the Settings page delivers a "show hidden files" link. The rest is the same as the 2019 article.
The good news is, it worked! Thanks for your help in tracking down a pretty trivial issue. Thought for a while I might be getting hacked. Life is so much better now, maybe we could even hope for an end to the pandemic!
