Hello Airdropper,

I totally agree with you ....

Would you do this please :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter. (ignore the warning)

Type in the search bar and look for the preference :

browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus

and set its value to false

Do the same with these preferences :

browser.urlbar.update1

browser.urlbar.update1.interventions

browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips

Then close and restart Firefox.

(if it's only the Top Sites suggestions that you want to get rid of : setting the value of first preference to "false" will do that)

Thanks alot ! Worked fine. Don't know who came up with this horrible feature. Should be possible to disable this .... via normal options.

Worked fine.

My pleasure !

Don't know who came up with this horrible feature.

When I first saw it, I said out loud (after I said something that I can't repeat here) "What were they thinking ? !"

So it looks like the devs are insistant that this will be "the way to present" mozilla from now on from the bugzilla posts. Cleaning up my bookmarks ready to jump ship when this workaround stops working in Version 77.

@ all :

In case you have a userChrome.css file (or are willing to create one), please see this, what I call "masterpiece", written by fellow contributor jscher2000 :

OMG, THANK YOU!!!

Having the address area do a drop shadow dance over my pinned bookmarks bar was just TOO much This should be turned off by default. To change things just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

This "feature" is absolutely asinine. And should not require going into about:config to (temporarily?!) fix.

As someone else said, if these behaviors don't become permanently optional - preferably in regular settings - or simply get reversed - I will switch browsers.

Agreed, it's awful.

And it is a violation of my privacy: I don't want people who are looking over my shoulder to see everything I have ever done. Nor am I at all interested in your suggestions. I'm the human here, how about you let me drive?

Thanks be to McCoy.

Why don’t Firfox make the new search bar as an option under customization so we can drag and drop which ever search bar we want.

The above solution does not work for the new Firefox developer edition 77.0b3(64-bit). Is there anyone who has the same issue? Or does Firefox team just made the decision to make it uncustomizable?

Those update1 prefs are no longer available in Firefox 77. You will have to use code in userChrome.css to revert the resize changes.

Yeah, this is unreasonable for the normal user. I've switched away from FF for the last month since the UI became intolerable. Will check back with FF from time to time in future to see if this is fixed/reverted/made optional.

It is really ugly and noisy feature.

Thanks for that. This ain't a complaint thread, please use the aforementioned 'Firefox Input page if you continue to use Firefox and want this forum to have volunteer contributors participate here.

I am half-way out the door as a volunteer contributor here, from the start of this forum well over 10 years ago, the "whiners" are killing this forum for the people who really need this forum. I am about ready to make my exit permanent here due to comments like this retrieving support threads long after the question thread was marked as "solved" by the user who started the thread.

I created account here just to write, that I can't believe what is happening to Firefox, why the hell they disabled option to disable this abstractly irritating option of enlarging url/search bar? I can't explain how much I hate this behavior, everytime I click on url bar... I uninstalled this Firefox 77, because they disabled these functions: browser.urlbar.update1... and Installed older version just because of this, and when it auto-updated to Firefox 77, I was pissed away...

@the_edmeister thank you for your 10 years support, but you really should go away if you can't understand that users are angry because they just killed options to customize Firefox.

Good point, we'll need to submit a new thread about the problem.

It's now common to see FF breaking UI at each update. at each update I'm loosing time on Google to search how to disable the new mess. Sometimes it's breaking my multirow tabs , sometimes it's adding a ugly large address box. STOP modifying the UI ! EACH new UI update should be optional and DISABLED by default.
