Is the a way to remove this new focused address bar? I want to be normal like in FireFox 74 the new style is so annoying.

Managed to remove the suggestions (browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus) from about:config but can't find a way to disable that address bar focus on click and on opening a tab that has the popup style.

Is there a way to make it properly like back to normal? I have trouble seeing which characters are highlighted and would prefer the full blue highlight instead of the characters changing colours. And the weird pop up I don't like but I guess at least I got rid of the suggestions on focus to the address bar. Anyway, help would be greatly appreciated (or should I make a new post regarding this?)

SOLVED!

You might share your secret, or maybe I'm about to reveal it.

Perhaps temporarily, there is a preference to revert the new megabar design back to the Firefox 74 design:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste URLB and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.urlbar.update1 preference to switch the value from true to false

This doesn't change any currently displayed windows, but will take effect in new windows, or after the next time you exit and restart Firefox.

I have trouble seeing which characters are highlighted and would prefer the full blue highlight instead of the characters changing colours.

I'm not sure I understand this part. Where are characters changing colors?

Life saver! The colour issue fixed when I did what you said to do to make the address bar return to normal (Firefox 74 design). I will show screenshots comparing the colour issue thing I was talking about as well. Thank you so much! :)

(with the screenshots, notice how the old design has the blue all around the text showing what is highlighted, and the new design just changes the text colour to blue to show what is highlighted.)

I think this is a change in how "highlight" colors are calculated with certain add-on themes. If this is the new normal, hopefully the authors will update them, although it's a bit of work to do that. For example: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1284318

Looks like the problem returned with the focused search bar with the new Firefox 77.01, does anyone know how to remove it from this version?

browser.urlbar.update1 looks like doesen't do the trick anymore.

I also noticed this but found my solution. I used this page: https://www.userchrome.org/megabar-styling-firefox-address-bar.html which uses some old disabled feature called userChrome.css, I'm not entirely sure if it's like safe but it probably is but yeah I don't know.

Anyway, so on that first link it has a second link (https://www.userchrome.org/how-create-userchrome-css.html) instructing how to use/setup this thing. I used the userChrome-ZeroEnlargement.css they provide (make sure to remove the '-ZeroEnlargement' part from the file name if you also use it. This removed the expanding box around the search bar. I then changed my theme to make the text highlight colour in the search bar correct again.

I hope this helps :)
