How do I print something in firefox correctly again without it being a column down the middle or being teeny tiny??

Every time i print, my content is a single column down the middle of the page and is so tiny I can't read it. How can I get it to print normal again?

Hi Kristy, it sounds as though the margins are completely messed up, or Firefox thinks you are printing tiny labels instead of normal web pages.

When you call up Print Preview using either --

  • "3-bar" menu button > Print
  • (menu bar) File > Print Preview

-- does it make any difference if you change the Scale setting on the Print Preview toolbar, or if you click the Page Setup button and check the margins?

No everything is set as it should be.

Could you check the settings under the hood:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste printer and pause while the list is filtered -- you should see numerous preferences for each printer

Could you check that there are reasonable numbers for the following -- usually the value is 0 (zero) -- checking the name of your actual printer:

  • print.printer_printer.print_edge_left
  • print.printer_printer.print_edge_right
  • print.printer_printer.print_unwriteable_margin_left
  • print.printer_printer.print_unwriteable_margin_right

This value sometimes is off -- 1 is letter size (8.5 x 11):

  • print.printer_printer.print_paper_data

Ok mine all say 17 not 1. I try to change it to the right of the line and when I click off of it, it defaults back to 17. Ugh!

17 is in the unwritable margins. Not the left or right which is 0.5

Hmm, 17mm or about 2/3 of an inch wouldn't be crazy?

17cm or about 6 2/3 inches would be a big problem.

17 inches, well...

After you make changes, how quickly does the value change back?

If it changes when you print, then Firefox may be making an error reading measurements in the print driver settings at the OS level. Could you double-check what kind of margins are set there?

If it changes when you exit/restart Firefox, an external file might be overriding previous session settings. Some culprits are identified in this article: How to fix preferences that won't save.

No it makes no difference whatsoever. I’m at a loss

more options

Oh after I change the number and go to the next line, it immediately changes

For me, it changes back when I use the printer. Firefox is somehow getting the data from the printer. But judging from mine, 25 is 0.25 inches, so 17 is not too high, there must be some other issue.

Are all sites printing so narrowly or is it limited to particular sites?

more options

All sites print narrow. If I go to Google Chrome, they print fine.

By the way, was this value normal?
