Firefox will not download files after Windows 10 is reinstalled
I reinstalled Windows 10 and Firefox will not download any files (although I can download them in Edge). Firefox reports that the download "failed." I tried everything I could find online. Then, I completely cleaned Firefox from my system and installed a fresh copy. The newly installed Firefox still would not download files. Parental controls are not turned on in Windows 10. I turned off User Account Control to test whether it may be interfering with the download (Firefox still would not download). I really don't want to switch browsers, but I need to be able to download files. Thanks for any help.

Are you using a download manager?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
Thanks for your quick response.
Unfortunately, the problem occurs in safe mode. I forgot to mention that even trying to install a Firefox addon fails.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
Thank you, Cor-el. Firefox will download in Windows safe mode. What do you suggest I do now?

Thanks, FredMcD. I'm not using a download manager. Firefox downloads in Windows Safe Mode.
That means one of the other programs on your system is causing the issue. As a test, disable your protection programs.
You may have turned on 'Controlled folder access' in Win10. Check your notifications and make sure Firefox is allowed.

I assume you mean anti-virus programs. I turned them off, but the download fail issue persists.
Thanks for your suggestion.

'Controlled folder access' was not turned on and it was not accessible because I wasn't using Windows Defender. Nonetheless, I turned off my anti-virus program and turned on Controlled folder Access and via Allowed an app through controlled folder access I added Firefox.
Unfortunately, the downloading failed issue in Firefox persists.
Note: Download fail occurred when I was using Windows Defender and occurs with my new anti-virus program.
In the meantime, I've installed XDM Extreme Download Manager, which so far works well.
Thank you for your suggestion. I appreciate it.
All same with me, download manager it is.
