Thanks to our reader "APM" for sharing a new working method to get rid of this "What's New" gift icon from Firefox toolbar and main menu. This new method works perfectly to delete the gift icon from Firefox.</blockquote>

Release notes after an update are pretty much pointless, same as notification of removal of features or extensions during an update, or finding out one cannot roll back an update afterward due to lack of backward compatibility for changes in user profile files.

<p>If someone really NEEDS this information, it's easy to find out anyway, with or without an additional icon for that purpose. Does it take a genius to google out "Firefox 72.0.1 changelog"? Prove me wrong, but I don't think so. In my opinion, a separate button for viewing the changelog is <strong>pointless</strong>. Have you ever seen any other application displaying a "<em>What's New</em>" button in its main toolbar?
</p><p>There's already a "What's New" link in the <em>About</em> dialog and an item under the <em>Hamburger</em> button menu. I'd say that those two are enough for those who want to be informed. Additional toolbar button is too intrusive, especially when you struggle to get rid of it.

<p>So far, the infamous "gift" button seems to reappear upon every major Firefox release, so I guess we'll have to wait until 73.0 to find out whether any of our "solutions" are actually useful in any way.
In my case , the custom CSS hack mentioned by @robert_gagne seems to do the job till now, but as I've already said, let's wait till the next major release to be 100% sure whether it works or not.

Your personal note says more about you than gift horses.
Give me a cadre of complainers.
Fanboys contribute nada.
When you really want to support and help improve a product, the criticism received are more important than the praise and excuses.

Judging the rest of the article, it only applies to Firefox Accounts button (which is indeed removeable). When try Customize the toolbar, I cannot remove What's new button because it's not there, while the button IS visible while browsing - regardless of <pre>browser.messaging-system.whatsNewPanel.enabled = false</pre>
