Download Fire Fox on Mac, created account, exists only on desk top as disc image & version I created has vanished help!

As above. Download was normal & created a new account. Fire Fox does not appear in my list of applications and is only a disc image on my desk top. I set up account, preferences etc, including Microsoft OneNote Web Clipper as an extension. Now all of that has vanished. Appears I have done something wrong when I down loaded.

Thank you for your response. I really do appreciate your help. I did as you suggested. The problem is only partly solved. Now I can use the browser, but for some reason I must sign in each time and confirm the sign in. That is manageable, but it is surprising. Is that the way it should work? — Andrew.
