On my lap top yesterday and my desktop, Firefox has logged my off and blocked me to my New York Times subscription. Different machines, different locations, different broadband providers. Whatever I do Firefox prevents a login. I have no problems with either Edge or Chrome, but Firefox has long been my preferred browser. Now my preferred browser is preventing me from accessing a favored website. I contacted the NYT and they suggested it was Firefox problem. Help. Thank you

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What are the exact error message(s) ?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

Thank you for your assistance. As to your questions, 1) When I am on the site it is clear from the upper right hand corner that I am not logged in as it asks me to Login or subscribe. 2) When I do anything on the site a sign in window appears with the option of signing in by either Facebook, Google or email. I do email. 3) When I enter the email address and password, the whirling symbol starts and in a few seconds I am back to where I started, Hope these help. Again, no such problem on Edge or Chrome. Again many thanks.

Have you tried what I posted above?

I did try all the steps, in some cases twice. Even went into safe mode, which I had realised existed, which automatically logged me into the Times website and then unchecked the Hardware Acceleration . When back to normal Firefox and the problem still persisted. So I went back and tried the Firefox clear cache again, This time it seemed to work and I could log back in to the Times and indeed had to relog into Mozilla. Thank you again. Now I will have to try the same process on my laptop. Many thanks.

I should try this. Test: Different computer, temporarily. If this reply posts, then my Win7 desktop and the Router are the problem.

Edit: Oh my! It worked! First time back in the forum in a long time! I got a strange Router Bug (Reported by Avast - but I now have MSE) that prevented me from logging into this forum. It started a while back where I couldn't sign into Twitter, then this forum, and then the more recent problem with Reddit.

Since Mozilla changed to an all-in-one sign-in, I recently was able to sign-in here, but not able to Reply to any Posts. On my desktop, I get, "Access Denied". With my friend's HP Notebook I'm using right now before I soon will return it to him, I'm able to Reply (and apparently Post).

So, I'll try once more to delete Cookies to see if that will work. I already tried Rebooting and Resetting the Router many weeks ago, but the bug was still there (noted by the Avast popup). Strange, when I had Avast, it doesn't report the bug during a Wi-Fi scan. I only saw the Avast popup about it when I tried to change the DNS in the Router. Now that I don't have Avast, I can change the DNS.

I can also sign-in and supposedly Reply to posts via my Android FireFox. I'll have to try that next. (I don't Sync and don't want to do Support via the cellphone. Besides, all my graphics that I've uploaded in my Replies here in the past are on my desktop computer.)

I could try to sign-in here on my desktop with a new Password and a new, alias eMail to see if that might work.

Regards,

~ Pj

A continuing problem. As reported yesterday, I thought we had the problem solved, thanks to FredMcD. Alas when I went back in today, it was the same exact problem. I repeated the steps a couple of times, to no avail. By the way the Hardware Acceleration was still unchecked from yesterday. Finally, I was in Safe Mode for the third time today and decided to click the Hardware Acceleration and exited. Went back into FireFox normally and still no change. So back to Safe Mode, unclicked the nusiance Hardware Acceleration, exited and went back to normal FireFox and all was now good logging in to the NY Times site. What can be done to permanently fix this flaw in Firefox? I cannot do this everyday. Thanks

Yes. On both my office desktop and my laptop. Both have the latest version. On my laptop I executed the steps suggested and remedy the problem, seemingly permanently as the next day it logged in normally. However the problem persists today on my office desk top.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

Firefox blocks New York Times subscriptions with its "security" software, which is actually just software to ruin the internet. Numerous elements of ordinary web browsing are now ruined by "upgrades" in Firefox. Videos don't play on numerous websites. But it is the NYTimes log in block that seems like the most pernicious and pointless one. It appears to be related to the error that also blocks video from playing on the library film website, Kanopy. What a wise move it is for Mozilla to do this to its users. I am not a software engineer, so a long article about "Preloading HSTS" from 7 years ago is not helpful. That is all that Mozilla support has to offer, incomprehensible material that will take hours to decode into English and will not provide a workable solution to this loop in which we login to the NY Times, correctly and then the site shows that we are not logged in. What makes them think that we have lifetimes to waste restarting an fiddling with settings all day and night? Over 20 years of this abusive nonsense! I have learned an immense number of fixes over the years. I've spent half of the last 20 years fighting with Windows and Mozilla.

The other option is to quit Firefox altogether and use Chrome, which has apparently not built into the browser a "security" device which prevents the browser from working. But of course, it has other features that are inferior. Why can't these two companies come up with ONE functioning browser between them? I have tried every solution on this page multiple times. They do not work. And I am quite certain as well, that if I ever get to where I can use my computer freely again without being blocked by Firefox, Firefox will have an update which will reinstate the block. All of these companies fail to understand that we want to read, or study, or use the internet in peace. But they continually repeatedly destroy our access to these activities
