FireFox suddenly shows a "Update Ready to Install" pop-up for Firefox 68.0?
Firefox normally updates automatically but yesterday evening when I powered up my MacBook Pro and then FireFox( vs 67.0.4) immediately upon launch a pop-up entitled, "Software Update" appeared and the body of the message reads, "Update Ready to install. A security and stability update for Firefox has been downloaded and is ready to be installed. Update: Firefox 68.0 Details (link) etc. Please see uploaded image below.
I did go to About FireFox, but it does not give me any way to update.
Question: Is this the new normal? Is it safe to click the links and update in the pop-up I received? Or how should I handle this?

I am submitting this question from an iMac rather than the MacBook Pro, I'm a little leery of using it at the moment. However, I did run MacScan, Malwarebytes and ClamXAV and they all came out fine.

Thank you for your help with this ... here's the rest of the story:
According to Apple the pop-up was not from the Mac Software Updater. They said it was from Firefox? And the pop-up was peculiar in that even if I restarted FF, the update didn't take.
You'll notice there was no "restart" link in the pop-up (just a blank box). When I closed the pop-up went to About Firefox a "restart" link was there, but it didn't work either.
I ended up deleting and reinstalling Firefox. Something must have been corrupt.

While Firefox will install updates automatically (provided you have allowed it to do so in your settings), the update won't actually be applied until your restart Firefox.
Closing Firefox and opening it again should successfully apply the update for you and get rid of the message.

So what you are saying is that this pop-up is normal and I should have no worries about applying it?
From what I can see, the popup just appears to be from the Mac Software Updater. There doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary there.

In that case, it sounds like maybe something wasn't installed properly or the download was corrupted in some way. Nevertheless, glad that you got everything working.
