Cannot drag files from download list

more options

In the past I could drag files from the downloads dropdown. Now, in order to drag downloaded files I have to open the downloads folder, which is an additional step and a nuisance. I suppose this changed with a recent FF update.

Is there any way to get the old functionality back?

I'm using FF 67.0 64-bit on a Win 10 64-bit PC.

Are other types of drag-and-drop affected, for example:

  • drag-and-drop an image from a web page to the desktop
  • drag-and-drop from the site information area (lock icon) to the desktop to create a shortcut

In that case, could you check the following support article: Drag and Drop errors with Firefox Launcher Process enabled and Windows UAC disabled - How to Fix.

No issues here. I'm able to do exactly what you have described.

Try running Firefox in Safe Mode to see if the issue is still there. This mode will temporarily disable your add-ons and some other features.

If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, a browser extension that you have installed is the likely cause.

Hope this helps.

Hi YossiD, you said you could "drag" files from the downloads dropdown. Where were you dragging them to (or where were you dropping them), and did that move them or copy them?

Working ok now. No idea what caused or fixed the problem. One more computer mystery.

The problem has returned, possibly with the latest FF update (68.0.1, 64.bit).

Reboot did not help.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Using the -no-deelevate switch did the trick. thanks so much.

How is anyone supposed to know about these switches and what they do (the name of the switch isn't exactly a giveaway), and why did the behavior change with the new FF version.

Anyway, all working fine now (at least for the time being).

This isn't really a Firefox issue, but it's connected to the solution I used.

I created a Firefox shortcut with the -no-deelevate switch, and pinned the shortcut to my taskbar (Win 10/64-bit). My dragging problem is solved, but now when I click the shortcut Firefox opens and creates a new toolbar icon for the active session. So now there are two FF icons on the toolbar.

Does anyone know how to fix that?

Sometimes issues with pinned Taskbar icons can be fixed by unpinning, updating the desktop shortcut, and re-pinning. ??
