Today for no reason all my saved passwords on my desktop Firefox browser have disappeared. Fortunately on my android phone they all still exist. I have tried to sync and on Android it confirms sync has happened but the passwords will still not show on the desktop browser. Only new passwords now entered are being recorded.

I have never had this problem ever and have done nothing today that would cause this to happen

I have the most recent FF 66 and up to date Windows 10

Any suggestions welcome please.

Well done. Before you shut down, do this.

logins.json and key3.db [v58+]key4.db : These are the password files. Copy Both ! to a safe location JIC.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above files and copy them someplace safe. Restart Firefox.

Have you had this sort of problem before? Firefox will remember passwords by default. You may have disabled this feature, or told Firefox to never remember passwords for a particular site. Check if you did so.

No nothing like that. As I said I have all the passwords on FF on Andriod but they won't sync with FF on my laptop. Nor will FF allow me to import from Chrome. When I try to import FF freezes and I get the microsoft message telling me the program has stopped. When I close FF shuts down completely. Never happened before and I did nothing to cause it

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.

We need to look at the sync logs. Type about:sync-log<enter> in the address bar.

Open the last file created and Copy its contents Now Paste it into this forum.

If the file is too large;

Open a text/word program and load the file. Left-click once. Now <Control> A to highlight everything, then <Control> C to copy it.

Next, have your web browser go to; https://pastebin.com/

Paste <Control> P the content of the file in the window. Note: On the bottom, fill out the boxes as best you can.

Now press Create A New Paste. The page will reload. Copy the new web address, and post it here.

I see some problems and called for more help.

Thanks. I could see from the log that sync was not working but no idea why. I did also run a virus check but that was clear so not a virus or malware problem

Another point that might help. I had closed FF down when I finished working yesterday. By today, when opening FF all the saved passwords from yesterday have been deleted. So the saved Login page is empty again.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

I have uninstalled FF and reinstalled a clean new version. This seems to have rrsolved the issue for now as Sync worked and reinstalled all the passwords from my Android phone which had retained the passwords in FF installed there. So now, at least for the moment, they are back on the laptop as well. I will keep my fingers crossed that when I close FF down tonight they will still be there tomorrow morning but as sync is working maybe what was causing the problem has gone with the clean install.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions up till now.

Hi Fred

Thanks for the above. I have copied and saved these and noticed and deleted the corrupt lists in case there was anything there that might create a similar problem.

Happy to say that opening FF today all the passwords are still there so hopefully whatever caused the problem disappeared when I uninstalled FF and reinstalled a clean version.

Thanks also for your responses and help.

Glad to help. Safe Surfing.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

I have this same issue, running FF 67.0.4 on Opensuse Leap 15.0. My saved passwords show on my phone but not my clean install of Firefox. I have saved a few new passwords on my desktop and they do sync to my phone, but none of the other passwords showing on my phone (Android Pie) will sync to my desktop. Phone app is up-to-date as well. I do have sync error logs as well. I have another posting of this question --> Firefox not syncing.
