Right-click on it and select Properties. What does it link to? A snapshot would be fine.

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Still doesn't solve the problem. Every time I restart the computer, it comes back.

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

nope, none of the above solution works. The only way I can remove it is to disconnect my Firefox account and remove all the Sync and remove all the private data and Sync data. Then the ???? bookmark will disapear when I reconnect the account. However, it always comes back. ALWAYS.

If so : remove the bookmark ...... (?)

Did you remove ???? from the other units in the sync?

I don't have this ????? on any other device. I further tested it. Once I disconnect the mutual account from this computer and choose "Remove Other Private DataCookies, cache, offline website data, etc."

The ???? will be gone once I connect the account. Is there any way I can save all the password and browser verification for certain website, like ebay or amazon, so I don't need to verify them again when I connect the account back?

Don't clear the cookies if you want to stay logged in to sites.

More generally, could you export your bookmarks to an HTML file to see whether Firefox provides any further information about that weird bookmark? The steps are here:

Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks

You can open that page in a text editor or in Firefox. If you open it in Firefox, use View Source (Ctrl+u) to get a view of the HTML code. Use Find in page (Ctrl+f) to skip to a nearby bookmark and then see whether you can find the HTML for the weird one.

If you want to post that HTML here, use <nowiki> before and </nowiki> after to avoid the forum interpreting the HTML. In the following example, before pasting I have deleted the value in "" of ICON="" since I don't really care about the icon (and also, it was too long to post otherwise).

You can alternatively upload the file and post a link.
