Hello,

I am getting a new email address through google. The only portion of the email address that will be changing is the domain. Am I able to simply update the username in the Thunderbird account settings to continue service. I want to avoid removing and re-adding the account if possible.

All my mail and folders should stay exactly the same, just the domain will be updated.

Best Wishes,

What's the account type of the old account, and what's gonna be the account type of the new account - POP or IMAP?

In general, I'd rather set up a new account in Thunderbird for the new domain to avoid problems with loosing existing mail.

Both accounts are IMAP. Google documentation mentions that all my mail should stay the same. If you are worried about thunderbird retaining it I will create a new account. Thank you very much!

It is not clear what exactly you're planning to do. If you won't have access to your old domain account anymore after switching to the new domain you must download all the messages on the server to the Local Folders account on your computer. Make sure to do that before you loose access to the old domain account.

Once the new domain account is active you can upload the messages again to the server.

Hello Christ1,

Thank you for all the assistance, I am sorry I was not clear enough before. This is the google resource that got me concerned with updating my email, the section titled "Mobile devices, sync tools, and IMAP connections". https://support.google.com/a/answer/2622985

I won't have access to my old domain, but all my emails should be present in the new account.

Best Wishes,
