I have been having this issue for more than a month. I previously had no issues with pdf files. I have tried every suggestion and nothing works. I have tried setting firefox to use the built in viewer, which sometimes works. I have tried setting firefox to open using Adobe. I have tried renaming the preferences folder. On some websites, for instance a pdf attached in gmail, when I click on it the firefox viewer works. When I click on a pdf file in other programs that require a download of the pdf file I get the dialog box asking me if I want to save the file or use Adobe Acrobat to open it. If I choose save, it does not complete the download and the file is corrupt. If I choose open with Adobe Acrobat then the download never completes. If I click on the download arrow and view the download it says that the time to complete the download is unknown. The pdf never opens and the downloads never complete. If I then close Firefox and reopen it, the pdf files magically open and appear in the Adobe Acrobat Reader without me clicking on anything. The main reason I chose Firefox as my browser was because of the ease of working with pdf files as opposed to Chrome. Now I can hardly use it any more.
