How can I always have the same folder, sort order, etc. when I start Thunderbird, irrespective of what I saw when I closed Thunderbird?

My father calls me every other day and complains that Thunderbird doesn't look like what it looked yesterday. The solution is fairly simple - I open his inbox and order mails newest first (what would I do without remote access...). However, is it possible to prevent Thunderbird from saving its layout so that dad always sees what he is used to see, irrespective of what he clicked yesterday?
