hi

since today I'm unable to delete the "Download History" with the "delete"-button right to the list of the downloads. Worked fine yesterday.

Can you otherwise delete history in the History Manager (Library) or in the sidebar?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
in case errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry

but also after a restart.

I had this problem before, it disappeared when I changed from the ESR to normal edition, but now its back again since 3 days.

and I can delete the download list again!

However, before closing this thread:

1) what for ist favicons anyway? I mean it reloads new icons with a fresh start again… no?

2) why/what happend that the file has been corrupted at the first place?

Favicons are also known as site icons. When you bookmark or visit a page, recent versions of Firefox save its site icon in favicons.sqlite. (Previously these were saved in places.sqlite with the address.)

2) why/what happend that the file has been corrupted at the first place?

I wish we knew! Unfortunately, the "Verify Integrity" function doesn't describe in what way the file is corrupted.

I cannot find where I left off several days ago but here is the problem that recurs for me. My 'Delete' is missing inside the box and the box is not the usual size. This happens several times a day and is rather irritating to have to go back to the menu and try it again.

Hi wahoospa, your Clear Recent History dialog is a different size each time you open it? That's odd; it's usually pretty consistent.

Sometimes the settings file that stores window and dialog dimensions becomes corrupted with nonsensical values. You can rename the file and have Firefox rebuild it. Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Open Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Exit
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstoreOLD.json. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, it's ancient, you can delete that.

Start Firefox back up and try the Clear Recent History dialog again. Does it display normally?

That mini-reset will hide the menu bar and bookmarks toolbar. You can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
  • (menu bar) View > Toolbars
On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar temporarily.
  • in Customize mode > Toolbars button (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)

To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.

Can you open the System menu of this window via Alt+Space and possibly resize this window?
