- I started notice the problem when I first installed Firefox Quantum 61 on previous Mojave beta, the screen is all black and nothing seem to be clickable.

- Today after a blog stating that Firefox 62 was ready for Mojave I downloaded the update but unfortunately I am still getting the black screen window. except that this time when hovering on the windows I can actually click on some button like the one asking if I wanted to set firefox as default browser, note that this was blindly as I can't see anything.

I restarted Firefox in safe mode, all I get is a small pop-up window that is black as well.

I am using a MacBook Air early 2014 running the latest Dev Beta of Mojave. All the browser work just fine, chrome, safari and so on.

It working now after a clean reinstall, here is what I think was the problem:

On the two last beta some Apps had automatically dark mode support, apps like transmission, coderunner2 and many, so guess Firefox was trying to do the same but wasn't fully setup.

After a clean install I copy everything back to my computer apps that was previously using macOS dark mode without being officially support stop using it, like the one I above. so I try Firefox again, now is working so I guess my system was corrupted somehow.

Thanks all for your time.

Hi, please dump it and grab full version from here :

Suggest you check with Apple and also report it to what ever you report to when running beta software : macOS Mojave beta 11 As it is probably the issue.

is this 62.0 version different from the one I already installed? I mean I downloaded the 62 version installer from Mozilla and not updated from 61

Already did, except that on MacRumors, there is a wiki tracking apps currently working on Mojave betas and firefox is among those apps, I posted there too to see if I currently the only one with the issue. thanks for such a quick reply!

If you downloaded from any other site you downloaded the Stub installer which you start then it calls for the other files.

There is issues at times because of that.

The above URL is for all the files in 1 installer.

By Stub installer do you mean the version that usually have a size of a few KB? the one I downloaded is 56.9MB same as the one in your link. I started the download, will report if issue is fixed.

I downloaded the installer from the link but the problem persists, I think some how it related to dark mode but I currently not in dark mode. I can see the cursor change when I hover blindly on window, for I instant the cursor change to pointer when hovering on the middle of the window where there is usually speed dial and the search bar, I can input text in the search bar and I can see what I type until I press enter

Hi, there is not really a need to blockquote everything.

See if starting in Safe Mode can get you in to see if it is Dark Mode : SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Performance > Uncheck to view)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST''''is issue still there ?

The Same thing happen when I start in safe mode, Other users on MacRumors are reporting that it's working fine on their end, but actually none have the same as I do, so it maybe related to my Mac, I will ait until 24 to install the final update if, the issue persist I will do a clean install and see maybe that will solve the problem as it started a few betas back. Thanks a lot for your time.

On Mac there is only one download and that is the full version Disk Image file.

Are you possibly using a dark High Contrast theme on your Mac?

Not That I am aware of, if it related to theme, I think it's supposed to work in safe mode but still not.

Is there a way to remove firefox so that all the setting related to firefox are reset, I mean remove all folder related to firefox include those where extension and theme are stored.

I decided to try out other version, the problem above currently happen with v58 to v62. I just download v45.9 and it work, I writing this from that version except that the dropdown window that ask to set up firefox as default browser is all white can't see the button to select.

I am on a metered network tonight I will download all the version from above 45.9 up to 57 so I can't have version close to the latest release that actually work.

With this version I went to extension nothing is installed, the theme is set to default as no theme are install.

Right now I will try to update this version automatically and see what happen.

see this answer:

I don't know how the reproduce the step in the answer on a Mac.

I tried version v63 beta, v59 tonight same thing anyway. I gonna stick to v45.9. I wanted to try out some project I am working on to see how they look in firefox, the latest update would have been better. Since I can't spend the time trying to make it work, I will just wait 4 more days and decide wether I should try something else if it still does work with the final release.

in the mean time I will try the windows version with Wine. Just to be precise, it was working on previous betas releases.

thanks All for your time.

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
