'Save Image As' Is Now Only Saves to Last Folder

more options

I used to save images to certain folders. For example, all Artist of a particular site would save to their own folders. For some random reason this changed and now I have to hunt around for the folders every time I save an image. This is so frustrating. I tried changing the about:config string but it doesn't work. When Firefox was first launched it was innovated, flexible, and highly customizable but recently its just buggy with issues that never get resolved. I have two questions which I am sure will never get addressed correctly... 1. Is there a fix for this issue? [A real fix, not just an inconvenient patch or instructions that won't work.] 2. Is Firefox going to get better or has it just one among many browsers that are mediocre?

"Save Image As" -- like other download commands -- usually shows the last folder in which you saved a file on a "per-site" basis. If the artists have their own sites, then that would explain why Firefox would remember the last folder used for that particular artist.

If Firefox was remembering different folders for different sections of the same site, that might have been a feature of an add-on. Your extensions lists shows 3 different extensions whose name starts with Save Image(s), so perhaps one of them has changed behavior or maybe there is a conflict between them.

Per-Site Folders

It is possible to override saving per site and restore the old behavior of last folder used for any site. You could check whether an optional preference has been added to override it:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste persite and pause while the list is filtered

Normally you will see a blank page. However:

(3) If you have a preference named browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite set to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true, or right-click > Reset to remove it

If "per site" features are still not working, or not remembered from session to session, there may be issues with other settings, such as automatic private browsing, or clearing history when Firefox closes (including "Site Preferences" data). There also are cleaning programs that may remove the file that stores "per site" data.

Your browser identified itself as Firefox 56 and the current version is Firefox 61. There are different opinions on whether the improved performance of Firefox Quantum outweighs the loss of some old add-ons. But one thing is certain: you can't judge Firefox by old unsupported versions.

Yeah, the new version is worse than the older verson. I run both because the new one does things the old one doesn't which once again proves my point.

Actually, that seems to be a contradictory statement. What don't you like about Firefox 61 compared with Firefox 56?

It's not contradictory. Most of my apps don't work on the new version but the newer version runs faster for streaming movies. But none of this solves my problem so I will mark it as unhelpful.

What apps? What do they do for you?
