why does my screen turn black

I have done everything suggested on the web and I just uninstalled Firefox and downloaded the latest version and reinstalled, and still the screen turns black when I select any link.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
