How can I open microsoft outlook and/or irfanview on firefox, not IE 11

I have IE 11 and firefox on my pc. default browser is firefox. platform is windows 7. I want to open microsoft outlook, and irfanview, and excel in firefox, but computer keeps using IE. How do I get it to use firefox, which is much more stable?
