I'm trying to go reset Firefox to solve another issue. But when I go into about:support it just freezes up. Same thing if I go in the help menu and select Troubleshooting Information.

I have tried "Use hardware acceleration when available" on and off. How would I go about solving this?

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks for the responses guys. Unfortunately neither option worked. Both in Safe Mode and Normal Mode under a new profile it still just freezes when trying to get into Help->Troubleshooting Information or just typing in about:support at the address bar.

about:config works fine. Seems like the issue came when I updated to 57.

Thanks again, and for any other ideas.

Sometimes a program or its files get corrupted.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Did you try to access about:support in Firefox Safe Mode?

What kind of other issue do you have that you want to refresh Firefox?

Note that there are buttons on the about:profiles page as well, but since a new profile created via the Profile Manager didn't work then a refresh won't work as well.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
