Latest version Firefox. Just did repair at Firefox website I think since last update, but not 100% sure that this problem has been occouring: A. multiple tabs open to different sites, when i go to a different tab, the previous tab I was at keeps refreshing. I see the circle popup (Cat chasing tail) This appears to be slowing the whole system down. B If i exit Firefox and reopen , go to history and restore last session, 7 windows open to equal last session (or whatever number there was) without going into any tab i do not see any refreshing... once i click a tab, then go to next tab , i now have a trail of refreshing... I have seen if i click into all 7 tabs, i may see 3 , 4, 5, 6, or all 7 refreshing C. Related, or unrelated a window pops up saying runtime error c++ library but doesnt give me enough info to trace to what is causing. I am not sure if Firefox is causing this or another program at this time. It may be coincidence that i am in firefox having this problem or it is in fact connected somehow.

What is in these unwanted tabs? Ads?

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a good ad / pop-up blocker.

It's normal that when you restore your previous session, Firefox only restores the active tab in each window immediately, and the others are not restored until you click them. This is meant to reduce the time you wait for Firefox to become usable.

It sounds as though either those other tabs restore slowly, or they just never finish loading at all. I don't know if there is a reason for this that is the same for all those pages/sites, or whether there are specific different reasons for each page to restore slowly.

On one of the problem tabs, if you click the "x" at the right end of the address bar to stop the page from restoring, then click the reload arrow (which appears in that same spot after you stop the loading), is a manual reload any faster than the automatic restore?

Can you attach a screenshot of that pop-up window?

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that works.

  • Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
  • Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
