Hi nifty1234, here are a couple potential issues to investigate:

(1) Corrupted Google cookies (2) Blocked third party cookies (3) Proxy setting issue

Cache and Cookies

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Command+r to check progress.

Remove the site's cookies

First save any pending work, then, while viewing a page on the site -- search will do if mail won't load -- try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, google.com should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help you stay logged in?

Third party cookies

I think Google may require third party cookies as you cross between subdomains. You can check on the Preferences page:

"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Privacy, and on the right side, change to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history". Here you can see whether you are allowing third party cookies (you can try "From visited" but you might need "Always").

Then see whether that helps you stay logged in.

Proxy Setting

"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Advanced, and on the right side, select the Network mini-tab. Then click the Settings button.

I suggest changing this setting to No Proxy to see whether that works better.
