The website is the community for OriginPC brand computers; Origin Niche http://niche.originpc.com/ and worked quite normally until Firefox 45.0.2 and now will only open in Private Window Mode. Otherwise it fails with a "taking too long to open" - type result. The site owner tells me they have never used security certificates for the Community pages, that was the first thing I thought of, so what changed in this version of Firefox and how do I get this one website to work as now I have to set the shortcut to open in IE11?

No I ditched Cookies Manager at the outset of this problem and I've already cleared cache, cookies, you name it. Makes no difference. I've tried Safe Mode - no-go, New Profile - works but then I have no add-ons installed yet and I don't like the default look of Firefox, Chances are it would stop working once everything is installed, making the whole exercise fruitless and I really don't have the energy to do all that (personal problems I wont burden you with). Private window works but then I have to log in every darn time I go anywhere. This started with v.45.0.x so something in that build has broken something. Thanks for all the suggestions. I thought maybe it would be an easy fix.

Yes I used that Forget this site...but don't forget I had to use devious means to actually get to that site in order to do that. I've checked and there are no cookies stored by the site.

What I have done is enter the following into the shortcut so it always opens in a Private Window, that works. It just means I have to log in each time. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -private-window http://niche.originpc.com/

Now it works. Not really a final answer but at least solves the issue for now. Firefox shouldn't have acted up for this one site only in the first place....something in 45.0,2 did that.

Surprised no-one can really tell me why that continues to happen - am now now on 46.0.1.

Hello Peter, any luck if you try as a test to check the specific issue the portable firefox ?

Do not worry, as the the-edmeister said : .....No need to mess around with "Profiles" (where Firefox user data and user preferences are stored - Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles) or the built-in Profile Manager. Portable Edition creates its' own Profile in its' own Program Files folderset......

thanks

It works in that OK but of course, FFP has no add-ons or anything else loaded at present.

By the way, I gather to uninstall Firefox Portable one simply deleted the folder it creates?

Correct, yes, delete the entire Program Files folder :-)

thanks

I guess I'll never know why that one site ( http://niche.originpc.com/ ) suddenly started being accessible only in Private Mode. I've searched the web exhaustively. Of the very few possible solutions I found, none worked. I was hoping Mozilla would take logs as this only started with 45.0.2., so really it's their fault. But I guess as I'm one out of millions, they aren't interested.

You could try to use the Live Http Headers extension to see if the HTTP request headers differ in any way when you use PB mode. Normally PB mode would only disable the disk cache and cookies stored in cookies.sqlite, i.e. use a special cookie jar that is purged when the PB mode session is closed.

Thanks for that suggestion. I'll try it to see if it helps me figure out what's going on.

I see no difference except the process is hampered by the fact that the website wont open at all in regular mode, so no address line appears until after the rejection has occurred.
