My usernames are being remembered, even though I do not have "Remember logins for sites" selected

Firefox 44.0.2. Windows 7 Ultimate N with all possible updates/security patches.

I have my Privacy settings configured to Clear History when Firefox closes, and I have all possible types of history selected.

I have my Security settings configured NOT to Remember Logins for Sites.

I login to a couple of my yahoo mail accounts and a hotmail account, and then I close Firefox. I reopen Firefox, and as soon as I type the first letter of one of my usernames in the Yahoo mail or Hotmail login pages, the rest of my username is suggested in a pop-down box below the username field.

I have found no way to delete these usernames from Firefox even though the browser is not set to remember them, and Firefox is set to delete all of my history each time I close the browser.

How do I make this stop happening?? I want Firefox to forget everything, INCLUDING user names, each time I close the browser.

Saving usernames without the associated passwords could be form data that's getting saved,

Clear your Form and Search History to see that's where that data is being saved.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/control-whether-firefox-automatically-fills-forms#w_clearing-form-history

more options

Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:

  1. click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
  2. highlight an entry in the drop-down list with the mouse or cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key
  3. press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry

Edmeister,

Thanks for your response. However, Form data should not be getting saved, because in Tools>Options>Privacy, I have selected "Clear history when Firefox closes" and in the "Settings..." for that function, I have every check box selected, including "Form & Search History"... So Form Data SHOULD be getting wiped out every time I Close Firefox.

FWIW, the other data, like website history, is cleared when I close and reopen Firefox.

Cor-el,

Thank you for your suggestion, which does work - I went back to the Yahoo Mail page and did exactly as you instructed, and when I reloaded the yahoo mail page, indeed my previously used user-names were not offered. However this is kind of the long-way-around some type of bug in the program.

And the larger problem is still unresolved - My Privacy settings are configured to delete all data (including Form data) when Firefox closes... but clearly the Form data is NOT being deleted when Firefox closes, despite the privacy settings.

How do I make a Bug report to the Mozilla developers?

Do you keep tabs open when you close Firefox or do you close all tabs before you close Firefox?

Firefox can store some data in sessionstore.js as part of the session data and in that case it won't help if you clear this data via "Clear history when Firefox closes".

It is possible that there is a problem with the formhistory.sqlite file in the profile folder that stores saved form data.

Try to rename/remove the formhistory file in the Firefox profile folder. You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Cor-el,

I often close multiple tabs at once with the Red X at the top right, or Alt-F4. However, at your suggestion, I closed all but 1 tab, then used File>Exit to close Firefox and the last remaining tab.

However, that didn't work. I still had usernames suggested when I reopened Firefox and went to email login pages, even when I went to the login page for support.mozilla.org

I also tried File>Restart Firefox and that also did not wipe the form data.

Cor-el,

I followed your instructions and deleted the formhistory.sqlite file from my Profiles folder.

On the following startup of Firefox, usernames were not suggested.... However on the next startup of Firefox, usernames were suggested again... so Firefox is still not wiping Form data when I close the browser.

I appreciate your help though - any more suggestions?

That File>Restart Firefox menu item is not a standard part of Firefox. That menu item was added by an extension. I wonder what other changes your Firefox installation has that might be affecting what we're trying to help you solve.

Please provide us with a list of your installed extensions. Note: Help > Troubleshooting Information --> 2 buttons at the top that will Copy ..... to clipboard the information on that internal "page".

Apparently, this is a bug. It was happening to me for some time and seems to be back to normal, but it was after I downloaded a fresh version of Firefox.
