Hundreds of crashes. Fill out crash report and send.

Latest crash report: (This the format I've been using the past several weeks-only date & time are changed) "12/5/2015 11:38:11 AM This is a real trash browser. Crash after crash after crash. This only started happening when I switched to WIN7 and has been happening (several times a day) for nearly two years. I've sent hundreds of crash reports and you have answered exactly ZERO. Yet the problem persists. You people suck - just like this browser! PLEASE E-MAIL ME A RESPONSE SO I KNOW YOU GOT THIS."

NEVER have I gotten a return email. I've tried uninstall/reinstall, remove apps, safe mode and anything else I find to do. Crashes happen early on in each browsing session and then get less frequent. URL or content seem to have no effect on when crashes occur. After two or three crashes I can be connected for hours without further crash. May not even be a Firefox issue, but the lack of response from FF indicates a very poor business model. I think your crash reporter is WORTHLESS.

Sorry that Firefox is crashing. We understand your frustration. Since there are millions of users currently running Firefox, Mozilla cannot respond to all crash reports that they receive.

In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for issues caused by plugins and set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page.

  • plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode

Can you post your troubleshooting information?

You can leave out the print prefs if the list gets too long to fit.

I see that you have disabled the plugin-container process (dom.ipc.plugins.enabled = false).

Any particular reason for this as it isn't recommended and will make Firefox crash for any plugin issue?

Note that browser.newtab.url is no longer supported in current Firefox releases. The browser.newtab.url pref is no longer supported in Firefox (41+), so it is no longer possible to set the new tab page via this pref.

You can look at this extension to set the new tab page:

You can set the new tab URL setting via the Options/Preferences of the extension on the about:addons page.

You can look at this extension if you use the home page as the new tab page.

Classic Theme Restorer includes this feature as well. In current CTR versions (1.3.9+) you find "New tab page url" under the Tabs (1) section.

more options

Txs - I toggled dom.ipc.plugins.enabled to true and installed the addon for new-tab homepage.

Hope this helps.

I'll let you know if it doesn't.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Drivers are updated, hardware accel. disabled and protected mode disabled. We'll see how this works.

more options

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
