Using FF; Windows 7: (1) I am NOT tech oriented and I indavertently left the "stay signed on" box checked. Now my username always appears automatically and I don't want it to, but I can't find how to fix that ANYWHERE. (2) How do I keep that "stay signed on" box unchecked permanently. (3) Before I came to this page, there was a page that asked me for my email address, etc. It said that email address was already in use. No kidding; it's me. It was trying to create a new account, so I finally just used a different email address & set up a new one.

A detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you:

  • Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

You can remove the cookies from a website to make the website forget about you. "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
