PC is 5 months old, Firefox worked well until the last couple of weeks when I noticed I couldn't open a tab in the usual way. Upon further investigation I have found that I can open a new tab by right clicking on a link. I have never had "ask" tool bar on this machine. I have refreshed Firefox and ran in safe mode. Neither of these helped. Also over the last week firefox has tried to open a new tab from a link (right clicking) and it has hung twice forcing me to restart the PC.

I was recently part of a Question where malware resulted in similar behaviour. Took a while to track down.

Please use the scanners indicated here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware#w_how-do-i-get-rid-of-malware.

PS. Here is the Question I mentioned above: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1085288.

Malware was the culprit and Malwarebytes did the job. Thanks so much . I mistakenly thought McAfee was protecting my computer but found it has its limitations. My scan revealed 157 threats so I have no idea which one it was but Malwarebytes quarantined them all and I now have Firefox working the way it was before this invasion. Thanks again.
