Hi all,

We have discovered an odd issue with Mozilla (several current versions tested) and one of our websites. There is a two stage login - username & password followed by eg mothers maiden name on subsequent page

When a new instance of firefox is opened then on completing the login answers the user is immediately returned back to the login page with a 'your session has timed out' message - basically our software returns our timeout page. If, on the same page you then login again everything is fine. If you close your window and open a new one then the problem occurs again. This is not cache related as I have done a lot of testing which almost certainly eliminates that.

Could anybody please offer further ideas? The site is https I have after googling tried a couple of random things like adding the site to exceptions list but no change. I have used developer console to follow the network calls and without a massive analysis, things seem to be correct.

I have tested in safe mode also so it is not related to extensions or add ins

Thanks for any advice.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Hi, thanks - I have determined that this is not system specific - rather it is to do somehow with the website itself or comms with it. I had already tested in safe mode as per my original post.

When I go to a different instance of this website (for another client) then there is no problem with Firefox at login time. There is something specific to the way the problem client is delivering their website, or some implementation tweak (custom to the basic version delivered) that is causing this problem when firefox is the browser used.

Could any ideas be offered from that perspective?

To clarify - the client hosts the website themselves - we supply the back end services etc and a standard front end which comes with a CMS that allows for customisations

What do you mean by this? A sub site? Have you checked that out?

If you can reproduce the error, do you notice any messages in the Browser Console (Ctrl+Shift+j)? I'd be particularly on the lookout for any cross-site issues if there are multiple host names involved.

Over the years, some users have reported similar-sounding behavior on AOL Network sites if they changed their connection setting to "Auto-detect proxy settings" from the default of "Use system proxy settings". You can check that on the Options page here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advance

Click the Network mini-tab, then the Settings button.

Thanks - Ive tested with a change of proxy settings but the same thing occurs.

I have left it with them now as a local site issue.

In case of any further responses then I should again clarify -

This is a client that has bought a 'self service' website from us as an add on to their installation of a CRM system we also provide. - It allows the clients customers to login and view their data.

The external url, and hosting of the webservices is all handled by the client, we just deliver the software - so in short no cross-site things are going on, this is a standalone website.
