Why won't firefox save my favorites? Or where are they getting placed?

I saved my favorites previously in Firefox. All I had to do before was click on the star next to the adress bar and the website would be saved. Then I would have to go and organize what folder I wanted the favorite site to be placed in. However, for the past couple weeks, this procedure is not working. When I left-click the star it still turns blue and shows it merging into the bookmarks, but the bookmark is nowhere to be found. I have looked in Recent Bookmarks, Unsorted Bookmarks, and even each of my individual bookmark folders to see if somehow they got placed in those. Unfortunately, the bookmarks are nowhere to be found. Where are these bookmarks going and why can't I find them as easily as before? I thought maybe there was a limit on the number of bookmarks so I deleted many of my current bookmarks to make room for new ones. Unfortunately this was not the issue either. Please HELP!!

Next to the bookmark star you should see a little menu Icon, it has three bars and looks like a notepad. Click on this icon and and a drop down menu should appear that has a list of bookmark lists. You can scroll down to the "recently bookmarked" option and a list should pop-up of the websites you bookmarked recently. You can also find this by opening the bookmark page itself. At the bottom of the list it will say "show all bookmarks" and a window will open that has a series of options. Scroll down to "recently bookmarked" and it will show all of your recent pages.

To edit or move that bookmark, press the Star again.

A window will come up with the name of the page and its web address. You can edit these entries.

Next, select what bookmarks folder you want this bookmark in. If you do not see that folder, go to the far right of the Folder line, and press the down arrow. You can also create a new folder.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not even able to locate where the bookmark is saving to, so I cannot edit or move it.

I clicked the star again, as you suggested, but it just keeps doing the same thing (lighting up blue and then showing a blue star move into the bookmarks folder next to it). I thought it must be putting it somewhere in the bookmarks based on the graphic, but I have clicked every link and folder in there and cannot find any of my "tester" bookmarks that I have been trying.

Where could these bookmarks be saving? Does it have anything to do with me being logged in/out of my Mozilla account? Do I need any special bookmark add-ons?

I'm just confused how this all of a sudden stopped working as I have been saving bookmarks in Firefox for 10+ years!

None of the bookmarks I am trying are even listed in the Recently Bookmarked folder!? There are bookmarks in there, but they are from the past, before I had this problem.

Can only certain sites be bookmarked? Are some blocked from being added to a favorites list?

There should not be any blocking with bookmarks. I even bookmark Firefox about pages.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

If these don't work, we will have to try to recover from auto backups.

Ok, I think I'm getting somewhere, but still no resolution.

I went into Firefox safe mode, as suggested, and tried to bookmark a page. Low and behold, it worked! This time, the blue star lit up and moved into the bookmarks folder like it always had before this issue, but this time the star next to the search bar stayed blue showing that the current page was bookmarked (this was not happening when not in safe mode). In addition, when I went into the recently bookmarked folder, there was the newly saved bookmark at the top of the list (which was also not happening before going into safe mode).

How can I now troubleshoot to find what add-on(s)/extension(s) is causing my bookmarks to not work? Should I just stay in safe mode at all times so I can use my bookmarks? Will being in safe mode effect my internet activity in any other way?

Thanks!

Hi, you will need to temporarily disable your extensions one by one until you find the culprit. Ctrl + Shift + A to open the Add-ons Manager. More - Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

Try disabling the IE Tab extension and see if that is fixed. A number of users have mentioned that was the cause of their bookmarks save not working.

Overall, there are a few different versions of "IE Tab" and iirc one of them was updated a few days ago - solving this bookmarks problem for the user who posted about that update.

BTW, I don't think you completely read the Firefox SafeMode KB article that Fred linked. Near the bottom of that KB article, under The problem does not happen in Safe Mode is a hyperlink to this KB article - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems
