I hope someone can help me I have newly set up Firefox Sync and now noticed that I have quite a few double entry booksmark. The problem is that every time I try to delete them, they keep reappearing no matter if I go through teh bookmark manager to delete them or open them and delete each seperately in a firefox tab. And now I think they are even multiplying... In between I get Unknown Problem encountered by Sync. I am also over the 5000 limit so I really want and need to reduce my entries for good!!! Would be very grateful if someone knows how to fix this :)

I should maybe add that whenever I try to sort something into a folder or a subfolder the sorting appears to work but at the original location the bookmark reappears again, as well.

The first thing to do is to "disconnect" from Sync on all connected devices before doing anything.

Then use Places Maintenance - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/ - on all those devices to fix the Places database on each device. Once that is done see if you can successfully delete those bookmarks, separately on each device. Go slow when deleting multiple bookmarks at the same time; let Firefox 'absorb' the changes before proceeding. Not a bad idea to watch the Task Manager and tp not proceed with more changes until the CPU meter drops back down indicating that Firefox has 'processed' the deletions you just made.

When the problem seems to be gone change your Sync password - https://accounts.firefox.com/ - to 'flush' your data from the Sync server. As you go to start connecting your devices back to Sync do it slowly - one device at a time, waiting after connecting each device to let the server do its' thing. Don't rush it - maybe 3 to 6 hours with Firefox running on the last device you re-connected before moving to the next device.

And if you have a mobile device running Firefox for Android, leave that device for the last device to be connected.
