Once upon a time in a browser, there was an EDIT to copy the link in the address line. I would like to have this feature because it is difficult to highlight the address so it can be copied in the generic copy.

I have searched mozilla for this feature & the search function does not seem to recognize the word copy. THe results include all kinds of things to do with the address bar, except copy it.

Thanks to all who provided a reply & being persistent. I have been using right click & selecting copy from the drop down;

As I get used to it, I like it better than selecting from the edit menu.

Reminds me of one of my office mates at work - whenever I asked him how to do something, the answer was always - Right Click & it always worked.

I will have to keep that in mind.

I think it only did not work once in this case. The cursor was probably already placed in the address box.

Thanks again for the advice.

Use Cmd+L (Ctrl+L Windows) to move focus and highlight the address. Then Cmd+C will copy & Cmd+V will paste.

Thanks for the quick response. I did try control L & see that it highlights. That is an answer to my question. HELP should be updated to have that reply to the "copy" question.

I would still like to see copy link added to the EDIT drop down for two reasons - It is one step, instead of two It can be done with a mouse click (many people do seem to like short cuts, I prefer using the mouse to click on my selection)

Thanks, again for telling me how to do it now(solving my problem). Hopefully, a better way can be added & help can be improved to present that answer.

I think the Edit menu typically refers to actions for the page rather than the browser toolbar area, so I don't know whether that will ever be the home for this feature.

These mouse-only steps should work, if you can right-click:

right-click the address bar > Copy

If the cursor was already in the address bar, that might not auto-select the entire address. Try double-clicking or triple-clicking the address to select all of it, then right-click the selected address > Copy

The address also is in the Page Info dialog, which is available from either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info
  • click the padlock or globe icon to the left of the site address > More Information > General

You can triple-click the address and then right-click > Copy

I think you may be referring to the auto complete list of suggestions, that appeas as you type into the address bar. I think that is a good idea too. IIRC I suggested that in some bug or conversation regarding updating toolbar features but obviously not enough others were convinced that is a necessary feature.

& help can be improved to present that answer.

It is possible to find that help page. There is a an advanced search feature (There is a request to make that feature more prominent ). Copy is a fairly common word.

More good suggestions, but not what I am looking for.

I really don't care what menu it is in, once I learn where it is. As long as I only click once (after navigating)

The right click seems full circle back to what bothers me - How to select the whole link. Control L comes the closest to ideal.

I did remember one of the big things I like about firefox - I can paste a link & click on the icon at the end of the address bar to send it. Other browsers require the keyboard RETURN button.

Maybe it's different on Mac. On Windows, if you did not already click in the address bar, right-clicking anywhere on the address automatically select the full address.

Oh OK, I thought the post said it did not always get the whole link. I tried it a couple of times & it worked. I will put it in the lineuop as long as it works. Thanks

There are prefs to set the behavior of clicking in the location/address bar and you can use a single-click or a double-click.

  • browser.urlbar.doubleClickSelectsAll
